I'd like it better if it was just the guy in the mullet, without the statue behind him. The pose and the alcohol bottles do it on their own.

Clever idea but what's with the drinker's stool shadow? Is it supposed to be something I'm not getting? I'll rate high anyway. I like.

pretty good stuff, but the odd shadow on the stool takes away from it a lot. Fix that and it'll be a 5 from me. For now, a 4.

Ok so heres the low down. Pub lighting comes from multiple sources, and this image is a little surreal so i took some creative liberty with the the lighting and the dart boards shadow. The reason why i added the thinker was based on clear communication, and the fact that alot of people havn't been understanding my previous submissions. It just expresses the idea more clearly and gives you a direct basis of comparison. It also helps the composition. I still have a version of the solitary drinker and i like it as well.

Cheers for the feedback, i'm going down the pub...

It's all really well done until you look at the bottles, which look hand-drawn awkwardly while everything else looks sculptural.

Too many styles not meshing well here.
Shadow perspectives are all off.

If you were going for abstract- then you took a few steps too far because it does not express "the idea more clearly and gives you a direct basis of comparison". In fact, it's LESS clear to many of us viewers. The phrase 'less is more' can apply here.

Lastly, I think if Rodin were still alive today, he'd kick himself for ever chiselling out The Thinker for all the dang parodies it's birthed.

But you know what DOES look interesting? The 4 bottles you have cropped at the bottom. They look really smooth & great- as if they are a direct illustration with your own personality that hasn't basically been copied from another artist. Shame they aren't even part of the design.

To my darling mezo,
cheers for the pasting ... But i dare say Walter Gropius would kick himself for ever yousing the term less is more. You have illustrated a very nice point though, we all draw inspiration from the out side world, so be careful labeling people unoriginal, copiers, or anything so untohought out or derogatory. How about you take a step back, be a little less serious, and just enjoy yourself. If this was unoriginal it would have a heart, octopus, or any number of other overused imagery on it. This is a lateral expression of a famous piece of art... nothing more.
Did you know Rodin. For all you know he loved a quiet drink, he may even have sported a mullet at one time or another, he might have had a good chuckle at my poor attempt at humour. Thanks for the little slice of advice tucked away in the pasting.

love i carnt spel... i do hope you read this dear.

Literal and Lateral pure talent classic, (a perivous comment) does not express the idea clearly enough. Hey? well i guess it is not for those simple minded people good job old chap, you are the Chuck Norris of the modern world, remember "Chuck never sleeps... he waits."

Sorry, but this is a mess. Bad use of color and shading, mish mash of styles, horrible perspective. Why are the figures so blurry - as if you didn't really understand the forms you were drawing, while the shadows are so crisp, and the bottles so... so... ? Also, Art History + Alcohol = Bad parodies. I don't often give terrible reviews, but I hate this. If they print it I will be so disapointed.

Don't patronize me, i carnt spel.

The point of my comment was not to bash copying- which is, no matter what you type, indeed what you have done to a degree. There is nothing wrong with parodies- hell, I myself have a Threadless print which was a parody of The Last Supper.

The main point of my critique was to point out the most aesthetically pleasing part of your illustration, the cropped out bottles- which are not reproduced from a 19th century artist. Whether you like it or not, there have been so many poor reproductions of Rodin's The Thinker that it, sadly, has become "overused imagry".

I was NOT labelling you as "unoriginal, copiers, or anything so untohought out or derogatory." So please refrain from typing words in my mouth. Many great artists, from Warhol to Threadless' own Glennz, have succeeded by copying and expanding upon others' ideas. What you created here, however, is not so much parody as it is kitsch.
As stated before- it lacks your own artistic personality. It appears you poured sweat into tracing out The Thinker, copying & pasting him, and then slapping on thong shoes & a mullet on the copy (which looks contrived & not natural, by the way).

The perspective of your shadows & the empty bottle on the right side are way off and confusing. The dartboard shadow looks bizzare where it is. The choppy lights & darks of The Thinker Twin's "skin" looks messy and doesn't blend with the rest of the illustration (ie, the bar stool, bottles, shadows, Mullet Thinker's clothing).

It's funny how you tell me to " take a step back, be a little less serious, and just enjoy yourself" when it looks like you had a hard time creating this illustration. The only "fun", carefree part are, as said 27 gazillion times, the cropped out bottles at the bottom which are not even included in your shirt design. Even the way you made your t-shirts down the right side seem like you had a good time making them.

And, yeah, the ink color choices aren't so great either.

I typed far too much already but I hope you do understand what I was mainly trying to say. And take the critiques of the many comments above to heart.

I don't like that they're both there together. It's a nice idea, but it'd be better with just the drinker and not both the drinker and thinker.

its all good mez, i love hearing two sides of the coin. I apreciate everyones comments. But this here is two unascapable probabilities. If i had put up the drinker on the stool by himself my comments would have been filled up with 'i dont get it's, and the thinker looks different to that.' Frankly, sad as it is i felt the need to make it more obvious than it needs to be. Having people say he should be on his own is in fact more valuable feedback. The other is that as always some people really like the design and some people hate it. Thats great, but who is right? No one and everyone. Everyone likes different things, that doesn't make their opinion the right or the wrong one. Just a piece of valuable information to take into account.

good fun kids... do your worst

You've said it at least twice now, but I'm pretty sure that only an idiot wouldn't get it if it had just the Drinker on it.

I don't know about your other submissions, but this one is pretty obvious.
