Not meant to be overly offensive, just poking a little bit of fun at Scientology... and evolution... and... well, I guess everyone\'s pretty much going to hate me after this one...

is that supposed to be tom cruise then?

i like the blue, w/o the white box. but the white on dark blue makes the figures look like they are in negitive.

I dont think the last figure should be a solid color. He needs to match with the others and have some white.

Love the design!
No box, though. No white, either. Black on orange looks good.

It probably wouldn't make sense to people without the title, but I think it's funny.

wow... surprised people like this. it was kind of a joke. glad you're enjoying it though.

>>I dont think the last figure should be a solid color. He needs to match with the others and have some white.

Yeah. Tom should probably have some white on him. He's wearing a dark suit though, which I thought would blacken out most of him, and I didnt want to just lighten his face. Maybe some wrinkles in the cloth would have been appropriate. Ah well...

>>No box, though. No white, either. Black on orange looks good.
That's my personal favorite as well.

hardly anyone's that easily offended by ideas like this around here. people do get pretty angry about poor illustrations though.... *cough*

^that came out a lot meaner than i'd planned....

killerlamb is right. i think i would like the illustration better if it were more hand drawn, or at least didn't look so much like you stuck a bunch of clip art together.

Uhm, I like the idea, I find it a little amusing because let's face it, scientology is one of the most ass-backwards religions out there. However, if you knew what they were all about, you'd realize that this really doesn't spoof it at all... uhm, maybe just do a little research and rework it somehow...

i dont get what R2-D2 has to do with scientology, or the apes....0
Themilkman666
Themilkman666 on Mar 29 '06
Dude sithvicious you dont now muich about it then. The base of that religon is there was some big ass intergalatic battle and then we somehow started all over again. THis shirt gets a 5 plus in my book.

i like the fact that the last figure is completely solid. it make him stand out appropriately, i think.

i love this idea, and i love its execution.

This would have been better if it had the text "Ask me about Scientology"
carrifaery
carrifaery on Mar 29 '06
well... as a person who has studied a lot of Scientology, I am not so much offended as confused. R2D2 has nothing to do with it, despite the supposed idea of an "intergalactic battle" as you put it. But whatev.. I think it could work better without R2D2 and maybe draw your own space-bot, if that is the idea you want. I think the end result of Tom Cruise is funny, but the idea would be lost on most people, I thought it was Luke Skywalker... and then the apes were confusing. And if we started from an intergallactic battle, we wouldn't have de-volved into monkies, so that just look s retarded.

To those who don't like or are "mad" at Scientology, I wonder how much you have really looked into it. Do you know a Scientologist personally? Just asking, cuz I think any Religious intollerance is pretty scary, just as scary as racism. Think before you speak. Unless you are a blatant racist or biggot, then I guess you don't care if you offend someone. People are afraid of what they don't understand, it is simple. So educate yourself.

Once I read the title it made me laugh. I think this is a shirt that needs the text on it to really work.

Tom Cruise should be shorter than the apes. ;)

Uhm, actually carrifaery, I became more scared of Scientology AFTER I studied it... you know, it's okay for people to have opinions about things, for instance: "I think scientology is a crazy religion." That's an opinion, one that I feel I have a right to, considering I have actually studied it on several occasions. We cool? ;)

Anyway, the reason I came back to this sub was to add something that has now already been addressed: Don't use R2-D2, draw your own little robot guy, because people will see R2 and immediately try to figure out how this shirt is a Star Wars reference.

it's not religious intolerence because scientology could never be considered a legitimate religion. ever. fucking science fiction writer invented it.

I too am surprised that this is actually getting votes. It really doesn't make any sense without explanation or look cohesive.
Kelseyg
Kelseyg on Mar 30 '06
And I agree that Scientology is more of a cult than a religion. The wiki for it is pretty cohesive.

Gosh. Do scientologists believe in evolution? Little thought was put into this.
mattylee
mattylee on Mar 31 '06
So everyone is aware...

Scientologists believe that 75 million years ago an intergalactic tyrant brought a group of people to earth, tied them to a volcano, and used hydragen bombs to set the volcanoes off. He then proceeded to brainwash their alien spirits (called Thetans). According to scientology, these Thetans experience a reincarnation type effect, and many of us, at some point in our existance were aliens. L. Ron himself was an intergalactic racecar driver in several of his past lives (anakin, perhaps...). Tom might as well be R2, right? :)

Scientology also claims that science fiction is not actually fiction, but a conscious recollection of these past lives. Interesting stuff, really.

Actually, R2 really has nothing to do with scientology, but I figure... it WAS supposedly a long time ago, in a galaxy far far away.

Then I would deffinitly buy it.
Funny concept though, But he needs to be more Tom curise-ish (if that is him as the last person)

scientology isn't a philospophy its a get rich quick scam invented by a FAILED science fiction writer, who several times addmitted to the world that he did infact invent it to get rich off stupid peoples. R2D2 i think gives this design the extra kick in the pants it needs, and all you scientologists who dont get it can sue me.

“The only difference between a cult and a religion is the amount of real estate they own”
Frank Zappa

I agree with the comment that the design isn't self-explanitory enough, but it has a curiosity factor and it looks pretty good.
