About my design

by leliophelia
After seeing King Kong a couple of months back, I noticed how puny and pointless the T-Rex\'s arms looked to be. And I got to wondering--what is their purpose?

So I researched it. Yes, yes I did. And one archeologist concluded that Tyrannosaurus Rexes were really wimps.

That was enough. I had to make a T-Rex girl slapping fight.

Oh, and fyi, this is my first submission. :)

i think it'd be funnier if you put the text on the shirt. it works really well on all colors. $4

slap fight?

I see the rex farting and killing the other.

Still looks good

A little hard to tell that they are slapping and the text might help. Really good concept though!

agree, i don't see a slap fight.

gorilla_with_an_axe on Mar 13 '06
It's true that Tyrannasaurus Rex could have been a scavenger for some of its food, however archaeologists have found fossils of T-Rex and Triceratops in battle. Predator, maybe... Wimp, NO.
leliophelia
leliophelia on Mar 13 '06
hm.. text? I think it'd take away from it.

I do agree that they could look a bit more like they're fighting... I originally had their eyes closed, but at the last minute opened them...

You can go here to see them with their eyes closed: http://www.leliophelia.livejournal.com. I've got the edited version as the background.

Hahaha! Looks like they're trying real hard to ignore eachother.

scary mARY on Mar 13 '06
Weren't they originally supposed to be dancing, or did I just make that up? haha Maybe it is the foot up, because to me slap fights do not usually include high kicks ;p
leliophelia
leliophelia on Mar 13 '06
haha, yanno, I figure they could be doing anything, but my interpretation is that they're girl-slapping each other. Could be dancing, could be farting, could be pondering the world's complexities. *shrug*

so... i love this design. please don't put the text in it, and i like that the interpretation could be anything. i first saw dancing dinos, but hey! slap fights are hot too. best color is the blue, but i ain't so picky that i wouldn't pick up the orange one too. lovaly!

kirstenlovesdinner on Mar 13 '06
great idea, but like everyone else, it's hard to tell what's going on.

I like it too. I say leave the text off and let the viewer figure out what they're up to. All the colors look good, but I like blue and orange best.

I have never seen clip art of dinosaurs dancing or farting or slapping. So. Clip art? Hardly.

Anyway! I like it. I agree with velvet, you should add the text. And uh. GIF = bad. I's all pixelly. ):

definitely add the text. this is the first time i've ever seen anyone say that about a design. it's soooo much funnier with the "di'int".

Gah, I've just gotta disagree. I really think the text will kill it.

i had no idea what they were doing. maybe having spasms?
leliophelia

quite possibly. I'm really thinking that it's more fun when what they're doing is left to interpretation..

Looks traced and adapted to me.

I can't believe people are giving this positive comments. This is awful. Not 'Sun your Buns' awful, just awful.
consideritdone
consideritdone on Mar 15 '06
See, if I say someone wearing this shirt--

I would be absolutely intrigued.

And that's what sells this shirt to me.

It could be a slap fight, could be a dino-tango, maybe a spasm... that's the beauty of it.
leliophelia
leliophelia on Mar 15 '06
If you're going to tell me it's awful, Matuso, back that statement up and I'll take you seriously. I don't see you spending 5-8 hours or more on any submissions.

Ruz, that comic was one of at least 20 dinosaur drawings I looked at for reference so I'd get the anatomy right. I didn't copy it. Compare the lifted leg to the yellow dinosaur. Not the same. I used it to see what position the muscles were in. I also looked at the position of the foot for the left dinosaur, but in NO way did I trace and copy it. At least half of the submissions being printed used something to look at for reference, be it the position of someone sitting, a panda's markings, and I could prove just as many submissions using stock photos and DIRECTLY tracing them. My case is hardly that.

It's my first submission and first time giving this vectoring thing a try. Give me a break.

hahaha this one is funny..i'm agreeing with them tho, i think i'd like it that much better with the text on the shirt..good stuff. good job!

cute, but i can't tell that they're meant to be fighting. kinda too kiddie for my tastes, but the dinos are well drawn.

thewrathofkahn
thewrathofkahn on Mar 16 '06
ok so the problem i'm seeing is that i can't tell that they're slapping each other.

if they're doing the girly slap thing i would suggest maybe moving them closer together, as someone else suggested, and/or making multiples of their arms to show movement.

but visually, with no context (which i only really got in the comments), it's a little unclear.

definitely could be something, though.

and it's definitely not a qwantz tracing. it's a t-rex, it's green, and it's an illustration. that's where the similarities end. qwantz has a different face, arms, and general structure. different t-rex.

leliophelia
leliophelia on Mar 17 '06
thank you for recognizing that they're not the same... gah.

Thank you for the comments, though. I'm still on the edge of whether I think it's best when their actions aren't too obvious and the viewer interpreting it themselves, or making it blatantly obvious and losing the visual appeal (with text, etc).
whirzle1
   whirzle1 on Mar 17 '06
You definitely need the text. Without it, you've got two dinosaurs in no context.

It seems to be that the reason people are finding this so funny is that they imagine one dinosaur saying that to the other dinosaur. Not the depiction itself. Without the text on the display image, I really don't think you would've received the feedback you've received.

The dinosaurs seem mishapened, and I would've never guessed it was a slap fight.
