About my design

by hortense
take two: for some reason the green background didn't show up in my original submission of this, which is odd. so i hope it works this time. fingers crossed.

looks best on forest green.

did you draw the martini glass yourself? i google searched "martini glass" and one of the first images looks very similar to yours; as though the image was simply rendered to look like a drawing for your design.

rad design - the aforementioned image does bear a striking similarity to the one you used, but who cares whether you "rendered" it or not, the concept is good and it is well executed even iv you din't draw the martini glass yourself

^^I agree spencekarl, but "traceovers" are okay. Also long as its not someone's art or somthing. There are tons of traced threadless shirts, but it's always nice to do it yourself...

I just want to say that this is the crappiest contest Threadless has ever done. I don't like any of these designs.

Nothing personal, but every single one from this contest got a 0 from me, so I'm ot really tipping the scales at all.

i did not render anything. i don't think you CAN render things in flash. at least not the version i have.

i used photos for reference for the bottles of booze (it is a tangqueray gin bottle and a martini and rossi vermouth bottle - though i went back and forth on what brands of gin or vermouth would be most recognizable as just a bottle. didn't want to actually have the brand names ON the bottle..)

i didn't realize it was such a no-no to use photos for reference for drawing.

i have used photos for reference for a few drawings i have done - a combo of traceover (usually for proportion) and just to refer to for how things look.

but i didn't realize there was such a stink about this sort of thing.

sorry, still new to threadless and just learning.

Don't freak out hortense. It's still your work and it's a cool design. Like any idea is truly original these days anyway. The rest of you should chill out.

If I was to buy this shirt, it would be really important to me that the math is actually right. That being said, (and I'm not positive about this) I don't think you need the parenthesis between the shot glasses and the bottles. I think the top line should look like this:

(two shot glasses gin bottle)+(shot glass vermouth bottle)

Other than that, I think this is a fantastic design. Nice job.

if you really wanna go into details.

I don't think you would divide by ice cubes, wouldn't you add them.

actually it would kinda be adding all around until you get to the glass.

but Other than that, I think this is a rather cute idea.

I wouldn't buy i though,

.. what i want to know is why are people looking at subs and then doing image searches on google to see if it's "original"

seriously.. get a life.

anyways, $5. :)

If you have a serious problem if it bothers you that people use google images as a reference to trace from.

On the subject of the math:

Some of those parentheses are unnecessary, but don't actually make it wrong, either.

I'm also fairly sure hortense was going for a verbal read-through of it, like "two shots vermouth plus one shot vodka over ice, shaken, goes into a martini glass."

If that's so, then the olives should be added after the big division.

All that said, I really don't care if you mess with it or not. It's still one of the better Extra Tasty subs. 4

I'm not sure, 'cause I hate math, but isn't that the quadratic formula?

I prefer Hendrick's, but I spose Tanqueray is probably more discernible.

HitOrMissy18, since i'm the one who brought up the google image, i'll address your question...when i initially looked at the design, i quickly noticed the difference between the excellent rendition of a martini glass, and the very poor drawing of the two olives within (my opinion anyways). and just out of curiousity, i did a quick search to see if i could find the exact martini glass. and i did.

shorty after i raised my query, it was pointed out to me that it's perfectly acceptable to do traceovers of photographs. didn't mean to stir anything.

too many parentheses, otherwise best submission I've seen for this contest.

as a disclaimer, though, i am old and crotchety and shouldn't be voting on the extra tasty contest because there is a very low chance I would wear an alcohol theme shirt. Now, if there is an extra tasty crispy contest featuring fried chicken - I'm your girl.

i don't care if you 'traced' pictures... they look like the original articles (so it makes sense other drawings look v similar to yours)... tanqueray is my favourite - love the shirt

you divide by ice, because it dilutes the rest of the drink! Its like adding a negative number! OMGZOR!

lovely design, great idea... but you make a terrible martini! (: Needs to be all gin and just a few drops of vermouth.

To be fair though I'll have to use this design as an excuse to try your martini tonight. Thanks!

Awesome shirt man!

Forget everyone complaining about the tracing crap, I've seen so many printed tracejobs, and you stated you just used as a guide anyways.

As for the math...people saying you should "add" the ice. That's the point, it's not directly math, I took it as "over ice". Which works out pretty nicely. I'm an engineer and I'm not offended by it...

5.

Wow, an extra tasty shirt with alcohol on it. How clever. I can't believe you thought of putting a martini glass on a shirt for a drink recipe website all by yourself. Keep tryin' kiddo.
