About my design
by gameyy
The old folks only complained about all of it. The railroad was far enough, they'd protested more than half a century ago to chubby developers in cream-colored suits and dark hats. But everyone suspected it wouldn't make a difference, and as the years shuffled by and the land gradually bristled with progress, those voices grew silent. They now gazed at the horizon through a shroud of jagged interruptions, expressing grievances muttered primarily to themselves for never doing more. That was the old generation, those that had lived and loved in virgin nature. The modern breed knew only now.

Instead, this era would see a thousand artists lean on a chain link fence and find inspiration in that very same skyline.

This is so beautifully done! I normally do not like any of the subs that have to do with "technology" because they don't interest me visually or topically, but this one has changed my perspective, quite literally, by making me see the topic differently. i wouldn't change a single thing! i love the little sqirrel too.. nice detail.

i like these colors way better than the other options too, they just pop.

I like this design because I absolutely love light polls, phone polls, etc. They can be real works of art if you really look and utilize them creatively... I did a slideshow completely of phone polls for my digital photography class and it did very well.

And I disagree with Sputnik13, I see tons of telephone wires and such these days. Maybe not if you live in a big city, but there are still a lot of them everywhere else.
Sputnik13
Sputnik13 on Mar 03 '06
I don't see that many telephone poles anymore, it seems most of the wires are underground. The telephone pole seems more quaint to me, rather than a icon of modernity. This shirt would've been more relevant 30 years ago. Unfortunately, the shirt is not printed with the author's comment to explain it.

But killer ilustrations, and I like the text treatment

It's neat to see that this has really inspired some reflections on this topic. I've personally always felt that there's a certain type of (sometimes accidental) "modern beauty" that is generated when natural and man-made elements are combined. This was an exploration of that concept, which you all seem to be recognizing.

The neighborhood I live in does have underground telephone lines, but many of the older neighborhoods (anthing older than, I dunno, 15 years?) still have above-ground poles.

4, great design, but remove all the extra stuff besides the center circle. i know its supose to be an eye but i think it would look a lot better if it was just the circle.

i lovee all the colors actually... but i'd probably pick the blue

anyway... what's that next to the mo? a 1/2 of a handcuff?? that's pretty interesting... i just want clarification that's all... 5

"what's that next to the mo?"

It's the back of the guy's neck. You're seeing through to the skyline in the background. I should've covered this up...
gameyy
gameyy on Mar 03 '06
Oh, nevermind, the other side... I don't know what it's called, but it's one of those wire things that hold the extra lines so that there's not too much slack...

this is gorgeous...I was so visually stimulated, I think the "u" being a bit out of place in "beauty" takes away though...because my eye gets stuck there, and there is so much else in the shirt to take in that I very much don't want my eye to get caught on such a small detail.

fantastic work!

As an admirer of that intersection between technology and nature, I love the concept and the illustration. Fantastic! On the other hand, I'm not very fond of the text as I feel it's pretty much hitting you over the head with what's already been shown so well with the other visual elements... that and the text treatment is a little 60's/psychadelic/hippie for my taste. Not sure if it's the intention but I feel like the text is the sarcastic voice of the older generation you mentioned in your preface, rather than the appreciative voice of the younger generation of artists. super cool though and I hope they print it (text or not)

Holy fucking shit, Batman... Best design ever.

I wrote something in my journal a while ago about finding beauty in the symmetry of electrical towers and other man-made crap in the landscape. This sub really hits home for me.

You get one of my very rare and heartfelt 5+$'s. Love love love it!

EccentricSage, there are 4 more color options that I've linked to in the first comment.

Thanks for all the positive comments folks. Like I mentioned earlier, it's very interesting to hear you all reflect on this similar notion of modern beauty. It's apparently a concept that most of us have thought about.

Amazing!!! I love everything about it, the color choice, the meaning, the illustration.

The powerlines remind me of MTV2 preview thingies they show sometimes.
