About my design

by JustJeff
Inspired by Jack Summerford's poster/shirt for ITC; and by Crowdstrudel's recent use of black-on-black in his submission "minimal."

It's quite derivative, yes. But mine has a sick twist which is only perceptible to some kindof super-nerd :)

   tesco on Feb 27 '06
thats not helvetica! I like the twist, but you've picked a font very similar to good old H (Grotesque?) so this will fly over 99.9999% of threadless voters heads. Oh well. I'd like the same shirt but using Comic sans to spell out Helvetica... now thats a statement!

if this was "American Typewriter," i'd be all over it.

Yes, "continental breakfast", you are. The entire world jests at your folly. No seriously, this is a typography joke. I'm a graphic designer and i didn't notice at first (it's like putting the word "orange" in green color). Maybe it's because i don't own a Mac ;o)

CB, you're not stupid atall :) This is a sick, sick idea I had of setting the word 'helvetica' in the typeface Arial (which many consider to be a parasitic knockoff of Helvetica, created to save Microsoft some money).

My title is a pun on Neue Haas Grotesk, the 'scientific' name for Helvetica.

(Sorry to bombard you guys with this stuff, but there's a good possibility this submission won't survive thru tomorrow, so I thought I'd get it out there.)

tesco -

I agree. I've contemplated submitting a comic sans hate shirt, but I could never bring myself to wear anything with that crap on it!

I made this shirt, using an iron on for inkjet printers and a small tee that i bought at a craft store.

I think you're right though, tesco- looks like Grotesk to me.

I actually have a similar design sitting on my computer here-with my own twist. I guess I'll just make it for myself since it's lost on most people here.

I think Arial angst is something typophiles just have to push through their system...

Great idea. Not sure how many people will understand. Buy it if you work in a Design firm.

It looks like Arial to me, A font designed for Microsoft because they were too cheap to buy the rights to use Helvetica. It makes me sick, but I like the idea :) good work.
