About my design
by plastikaa
Yeah - sounds funny but not when it happens during an exam (which is what happened to me and where I got my idea from) - anyway the exam didnt really need a calculator much so hopefully I got away with not using it much.

Okay yes its just text but I find it amusing to myself - dont know if anyone else will though.

This design slowly pulls the viewer in.
At first I was not impressed
then I noticed it was made up of only 5s and 2s
then I started trying to work on the equation
then I noticed it was more complex than I first thought
then I gave up on working it
and then I typed this comment

I hope the equation really has the end result of
9876543210

   sonmi on Feb 07 '06
haha, is it because only the 5 and 2 number keys work on your calculator?
plastikaa
   plastikaa on Feb 07 '06
Yes the end result really is 9876543210 - someone can check if they wish ( I hope I didnt make a mistake ) - at one stage I did think about using calculus but then it might be lost on some people, thats just a long mix of standard maths.

And yes just the 2 and 5 work :P well did Ive got most back working just the 0 and . left now to fix :)

I think that it should be written by hand, but otherwise I am a sucker for all math and science geek shirts (still waiting for Obviously to be printed...) so I love it!

Checks out.

Clever shirt.

I like it!

I think it could be improved if the text more looked like it is scrawled with chalk on a chalkboard.

How hilarious would it be if that number wasn't the right answer.

I doubt anybody would know, regardless. But still.

People say handwritten, but wouldn't a more digital font like a calculator work better. I think the world needs more math shirts.

Maybe chalkboard-style, with white handwriting on black shirt?

Digitize!
You could try putting it on a graphing-calculator screen - then the "broken calculator" theme might be more obvious.

I love it, but please don't put it angled on the shirt.

It needs to be horizontal.

in an equation like this, the x's should be dots. is the multiplication sign a variable? who knows!

as an engineer in training, math shirts tend to make me think about how pathetic life is right now, what with all the homework and... well, that's pretty much it...

I think I would like it even better if the end result was one. Or zero. Or something like that. You know what I mean - then you get some irony in there as well.

i think its strange but cool...i like how it ends up as

Sweet. I had to <a href=http://flickr.com/photos/garyfixler/98204897/>check it out</a>.

I think I like the idea of the words printed to look more like my TI-85's dot-matrix font. Also, because of order of operations, the larger parentheses aren't necessary, which is the only way I could fit this on the screen with its answer.

How did I know it was going to print the anchor tag, too?

I'd get it if there were asterisks or, er, dots for multiplication signs. I thought X was a variable and got confused. :(

Add somewhere on the shirt "Broken Calculators Ca'nt Be Fixed" and I'd love it.

my brain!! its hurts!! but i like it...it will confuse people nehehehe
noimnot
noimnot on Feb 12 '06
the idea that the calculator is broken needs to be more obvious. other wise you're just like " okay...there's a bunch of fives and twos.... hmm...."
your story is really funny, even though i can imagine how it wouldn't be at the time. definitely horizontal.

SFpirate

wow i thought that sucked until i noticed that the answer was 9876543210. then it was awesome. and also that it's all 5's and 2's. that's cool too. I like it.

there were too many comments so i stopped reading them... its early!

anyway, two things:--- wait, three: 1- I love this idea so $5 on the idea 2 i agree with someone above that it needs to look more like a chalkboard in order for that idea to come through, and 3. Just call me overartsy but i really like more than words on something if the words are a normal font. like a broken calculator or something in the corner. Again, probably just me. 4 for now though,

and i checked, youre right haha... i find it even more fascinating that the first equation eqals 9,000,000,000 and the second equas 800,000,000 and so on.
