i think the blue/blue is the right color choice. but that's because there's something in the design that's not working for me. i'm thinking it's that the design works really well in the small, if you stare at the details, but it doesn't work as well for me in the large, if you step back and look at it in its shape and big pieces. i think the high-contrast color schemes draw attention to the large details and accentuate the way it doesn't work so well in the large. the blue/blue kind of blurs and de-emphasizes the large contrasts (it's all grey), which brings you sooner into the detail where the shirt rules.



i think the design needs a frame. if i were in a whimsical mood, i'd put it in the sort of half-shell shrine you find in the front yard. maybe in a frame to make it look like a painting, or a niche from a church. something like that would deal with the large details....

another way of saying this is, the high-contrast between head/boobie/forearm (which are all brightly colored) and shoulder/mid-section (which are outlined), combined with the similarity between the outlined body parts and the ruff, mean that the contrasts do not line up with the things that the eye wants to turn into a single thing in the image. you could change the coloring so as to make the body all seem "the same", or you could frame it, or you could add some other object, or....
