Liking the concept.. but still lacking something.. What if the soldier was kneeling "in" the pot... perhaps a nuanced facial expression?
Keep it up! ;) |

whoa. you got a step-by-step instruction manual to improvement there.
i kinda like it the way it is. |

Well..toastburner.. (cool name by the way)...a very descent submission. Photoshop eludes me at the moment, but watch out in the future! Anyways, great idea, made me laugh. :)

Great idea. Made me chuckle a bit.
I think the colors are fine. There's nothing wrong with a little black outlining here and there. I think the design could be bigger though. |
My suggestions: Change the position. The pot should be closer to the soldier, and maybe on the other side. Right now, it seems like he's looking away.
The rest has to do with color: You have four colors, use them! Right now you are using four, but just barely. Lose the black outline around the thought bubble--in fact, lose the black. Replace with a dark reddish-brown color (if you're a Crayola fan, I'm thinking along the lines of mahogany). Don't just use it for outlines, either--use it for shading. You picture is very flat right now, and it could be a lot stronger.
Similarly, replace the white with a a very light terracotta-family color. Use it not only for the speech bubble, but also for highlights on the soldier and the pot.
What you do (or don't do) with the heart color is up to you. And remember that, depending on the color of the shirt, it is possible to incorporate that into your design as well.
Good luck. :)
