and there isn't an option for capped sleaves (as far as I know). perhaps a ringer, but not capped.

I don't see what's wrong with a shirt that appeals more to women than to men. I wouldn't wear it, but I'd buy it as a gift.

The shirt is beautiful and the color selection is great. Love the green.

As a guy I could say I'd buy and wear it.

Very nice.

$5.

i problem with shirts that don't sell in one or the other is that threadless is more hesitant to print them because they don't sell. that be all

this is cool.... i don't usually like this square designs but this one is sweet for some reason. i'm a guy so i'd never wear it, and this isn't a thing my girlfriend would wear, so i can't really say i'd buy it. maybe i'd frame it or something. 5

Anime is art for lazy people.
Easy Jack
Easy Jack on Dec 30 '05
degrassi: On an amateur level I agree. But on any level above that I say nonsense.

If you can look at professional grade pieces made by the likes of Masamune Shirow, Oyari Ashito, Tsutomu Nihei and others and call it "art for lazy people," then I say your ability to comprehend aesthetics is jaded.

I'm by no means a rabid fan of the "Superflat" movement and it's related fields; I just don't let personal bias cloud my judgement.
The Captain of Awesome
The Captain of Awesome on Dec 30 '05
Even your "professional" japanimators are amateurs, they all trace stuff they have prieviously made, and they do it all on the computers now. On top of that, almost all of it is shipped to Korea.

Japanime sucks on all levels.
Easy Jack
Easy Jack on Dec 30 '05
The Captain of Awesome: You obviously have an insight that is limited to the strict american commercial aspect of it.

Track down the hand drawn goods found from Comiket, go check out Yoshitoshi ABe's sketch pad, look at some of the "Superflat" art that's finding it's way into American art galleries as exhibits.

People easily dismiss "Superflat" art solely for the fact that anime is becoming rampant in America and every middle schooler is trying to emulate it. Understandable. But for crying out loud don't be an artistic bigot and refuse to give credit where it's due.

I don't think I've ever read a single comment from Captain of Awesome that wasn't completely stupid. At least they aren't in all caps anymore... that's an improvement.

My complaint? I can't seem to read the banner as anything but "true forever love" which I don't think is what you were going for.

The Captain of Awesome
The Captain of Awesome on Dec 30 '05
I'm sorry mthat was a terrible thing for me to say.

Let's say, in theory, the introduction of all Japanese thoughts and ideas entering and perverting our proud western heritage is a mental abombination, and it should be "nuked" as soon as possible.

I have nothing against the friendly yellows myself.
abrakadalice
abrakadalice on Dec 30 '05
i wouldn't wear this myself, but i think it's really well done. better than most of the other anime attempts i've seen on threadless. pink is best.

GallyAl: You're very welcome and once again nice work.

The Captain of Awesome: I think "Influencing" is the more appropriate word here. Regardless, there's any underlying irony in your statements due to the fact that over in Japan there's people saying the same thing about Western influence on their culture.

Ah well, cultural influence is never a universally accepted thing at first. Take the Blues and it's initial impact on American music for example.

The Captain of Awesome

And then we both sit back and wonder, "Did I/The Captain of Awesome, intend to be ironic?"

I think it's a really creative design, but I'm not a fan of the capped sleeves.

I like the way that Captain of Awesome talks about how much he dislikes anime, but if you look on his myspace, he has an anime listed as one of his favorite movies. Kinda funny.

I knew this was going to stir up some heated arguments about anime and what not. (And after browsing the comments, I was right!)

I agree with a lot of what Easy Jack has said. I also think that one of the main reasons a lot of people hate anime, is because many 'children' are very much into it. Teenagers (and even some older folks) just hate associating themselves with anyone younger and their interests. But my gosh... get over yourselves. Don't hate something just because of a stigma.

I happen to like anime (regardless of wether or not every middle schooler on the block likes to emulate it) and I respect the work of professional 'superflat' artists, as Easy Jack called them. As for nuking Japan.... it's insensitive bigot thoughts like that which have made most other countries hate America.

Anyway, I like the design, GallyAl. It's well illustrated and both color schemes work very well.

Great stuff GallyAl, please keep it up!
I like the drawing, intriguing face + nice flowers. Perhaps you should lose the words, I don't think it adds. Her face is interesting enough in itself. Both colours rock.

Welcome at Threadless btw, I'll try to be gentle, but I'm new as well :P
(I like checking out all the submissions as well. Grading is hard at times though.)

On the off-topic discussion: someone is obviously just out to cause a stir. I find it unbecoming to do this, especially at GallyAl's submissionblog.

What impressed me the most were the flowers. I'm really hoping you drew them yourself.
Her face is a little too round, even by anime standards. It's also hard to tell if that's a frame behind her or if that's her hair. Either way, I'd suggest rethinking that bit. It makes her seem even rounder than she already is.

On a personal note: I vote that we nuke the Captain of Awesome. I'm in Japan right now, actually, so you all in violent countries will have to do that for me. I would be most appreciative.

Would be awesome on black, especially the pink one.
Oh, btw don't think too many ppl believe in true and forever love :)
At least should be another version of it like " I don't believe in love" etc.

The Bravery on Jan 03 '06
You're welcome :)

Speechless: I'm not really bothered about it's roundness, but I see your point. Btw I vote we never use nukes.
