i love the idea. simple yet meaningful at the same time. i'm with blacksheep that he looks a little bit naked...maybe the shorts should be red though, that way he keeps with the different color scheme of the other people. 5$

it would look better if the placement was somewhere along the bottom.

i like the idea a lot.
maybe the guy's clothes could be outlined in black? he could be wearing a red-polkadot boker bathing suit? something to add more detail to him would be necessary (more contrast with the washed-out people in grey). |

Well done NGee - may we ask if you are the optimist you have portrayed in this design? If so I fear for your safety, as to me the chirpy (but possibly simple?) sunshine merchant is blissfully unaware of the two mobs of 'heavies' converging on either side. That one with the hook looks a bit nasty and while your parasol could divert some of the blows I notice every single one has a fearsome spike on their umbrellas. Perhaps your comment on how society views 'blind' optimism?

Very nice! As steve_swartz suggested, I'd love to see the optomist wearing red polka-dotted shorts, but a solid red would be good, too. I do have a bit of a problem with the way the beach umbrella appears to be growing out of the optomist's shoulder/head area - maybe if his left elbow was bent more sharply it would look more like his arm was in the position necessary to actually be holding the umbrella's pole.
Oh, and to those who mentioned the "hook hand" - I'm pretty sure that's the curved handle of the guy's umbrella, not that a hook hand wouldn't be cool. ;) |

Oh, and definitely don't change the background color. The grey gives the perfect rainy-day feeling - why would they all be carrying umbrella if it wasn't raining, you silly brighter-color-requesting people? ;)

i have this obsession with umbrellas and optimism and...wow. i'm also a huge fan of originality? i LOVE it! so original and not depressing :D!! it could work at like the bottom right ish but i dont think its that bad in the middle :) awesome job! |
