yeah, I still don't see how the Mucha-esque background is at all related to the hand, it would have looked better and appealled to a larger audience if you had just the hand, which is by far more imaginative and compelling on it's own.
I originally wanted the background to be tree rings, but that got kinda unwieldy and funny looking, I thought the mosaic gave a similar type feel as the rings and added a more ordered texture in opposition to the sinuous growing parts. Without a background I felt it lacked something.
this is amazing ..as for teh background comment .. while not related thematically they are very much related stylistically. this is just plain awesome and so far one of teh only sxsw subs that dont make want to set my pants on fire .
very very well done. i liked your last piece too. you obviously put a lot more into it than some people wanted to give you credit for, and its a shame that a couple of rabble rousers caused you so many problems. good luck.
you'd be doing things more in the manner of mucha if you put it on natural; to date, i can't really recall mucha using those colors with black before. Also, i guess if you wanted to incorporate Mucha's art theory, I'd suggest nudging the hand a little to the left maybe, so that it's slightly off-center from the back image. slightly more provocative. slightly more mucha. i am loving the hand though. i could get this for all those GPB majors...
Very, very nice. I agree that the background may not be necessary, but I really like all of it. Only nitpicking I can manage is with the circular, dashed brown line around the outer edge of the background. I think you could definitely lose that.
Higher resolution versions are posted in my blog.
This is the last of my SXSW submissions and is once again in the style of Mucha. I do not intend to offend.
