Yikes! I remember being that age and seeing that happen on tv in my 3rd grade classroom. Not sure if I enjoy the memory. (nice design though, sad message)

I'd either remove the text or change it.

aside from whatever offense this is bound to cause, it's kind of stupid. I mean bad puns have their place but no one should have to pay for them.

i really like the design... but it's almost mocking the event with the whole NOT! thing going on... maybe if the text wasn't there it'd be more open to interpretation??

Even if I didnt think this was offensive, its not that funny aswell.

remove the text, dont make it explode, having a kid watch a rocket go to space on tv, but then to have it go straight out above the tv is pretty cool id think.

I want it. $5 DO NOT REMOVE TEXT! These people are ruining everything. If they don't like the design they don't have to rate it/buy it.

Heh, the tv and smoke trail is shaped like Norway.

if you took out the text, and made it so the spaceship was just flying off, that would be cool... i love the smoke

"If they don't like the design they don't have to rate it/buy it."

I agree with you on the "buy it" part, but I'm pretty sure the point of rating is so Threadless gets an idea of what the customers want, not so that only the people who like the shirt will score it, or else every shirt would end up with a 5.

I think the style is really great, but I wouldn't wear it, and I'd kind of look down on anyone who did.

this is a perfect example to me of a "no text"shirt. it reminds me of those g-unot shirts.

I'm not offended, but I think the pun is silly. Maybe it could be "I don't want to be an astronaut anymore" or something like that. Astro-not is too Wayne's World for me.

I love the idea. I think people are WAAAY too sensitive on these postings. Designs that shake people up, offend, and cause a debate are precisely why t-shirts with images on them occurred in the first place.

However, I would lose the text and instead have the boy wearing a spaceman helmet or those little alien antenna with the stars on the ends...something that suggests your idea a bit more subliminally. Make those changes and I'd buy.

I actually like the text. but would have to agree with simplify when they said to "have the boy wearing a spaceman helmet or those little alien antenna with the stars on the ends...something that suggests your idea a bit more subliminally." That would be a nice finishing touch.

Seriously, I realize that this isn't PC or E: for everyone, but it's really good, and people who want to change the message of the shirt are stupid. If you want to suggest emphisim on the meaning, then cool, but to say something like "no exploding because it hurts my feelings" is taking away from the purpose of the shirt. It's not just to be offensive, I got a kind-of, "crushing the child-hood dream" vibe, which I enjoyed.

Nice job, DON'T CHANGE IT, 5.
Sushiful
Sushiful on Dec 13 '05
Why are people offended by this? Shit happens, cars wreck, hearts break, and yes, things may explode. Is he saying astronauts are idiots, martyrs, etc?
Yeah, it's up for open-interpretation, but really, stick to the topic now.

Hah, but asides from all that, I really don't like the shirt itself. Concept's a-okay, but the end product isn't the greatest.

Not another one. My television exploded last week and since then I have not been able to watch any of my shows. This shirt reminds me off the emptiness I face at home. When will people realise nobody will buy a t-shirt that offends.
Turn Over
Turn Over on Dec 14 '05
i think the whole point of the shirt is to emphasize the not in AstroNOT. It works for me and I would buy it. The placement on the shirt is bad though, it should be lower left.

I love the design. Not so keen on the text which is clunky. Like the idea of the kid having space-related toys like simplify suggested. Not sure about the helmet - Maybe a spaceship in front of him. I don't find it offensive. It's rather poignant.

maybe this site should be re-named TASTELESS instead of threadless.

I don't find it super-offensive, but it certainly isn't poignant.
It's mostly a stupid joke. don't forget to show the dead bodies falling thru space. then you can make it a series and do a World Trade Center one next about not wanting to be a fire-man and have all the men on fire.
FUNNY!!! and so witty and clever!!! don't you think?
Garnett F
Garnett F on Dec 16 '05
Jebus! How long was it before the World Trade Centre was brought up? Surely "Stupid joke" is one of many possible interpretations, to which you are entitled, but which is blinkered. Not drawing pictures of this sort of stuff won't mean it didn't happen.

The text is rather crude, but the rest of the design, I would agree, is quite poignant.
