About my design

by wflan
My first sub! They're all leaves,if you can't tell by the detail. Not too special, but a concept/statement I'd like to see on a threadless tee

What kind of pattern are the leaves supposed to be making?

It's the universal recycling sign. I like it, but would like it better if they were more obviously leaves. They look like green moths to me, which is cryptic.

oh shit, Andy Goldsworthy is gonna kick your ass!

haha, not really, i dig it, i agree with the more obvious leaves suggestion

looking back (it's been about a week), the leaves are pretty low contrast... That is easy to fix with indexed color, though! also, what do you all thing about the size of the leaves? scaled onto the shirt, I think that they're a pretty good size. Let me know!

I agree with dangerouspenguin.

They look like that moth from Lunesta.

But I love the idea.

If they looked more like leaves, it'd be better.

I think the size is fine.

The brush is a preset from Photoshop and the concept has been done before. Though I don't know if it was made into a shirt. : /

i thought it was little green butterflies -- yes like the lunesta ones. i think i'd like it better as butterflies that looked like leaves from afar.

SO here's an update/response to comments about my first sub

YES, it is a photoshop brush. Though I agree that this doesn't add to the design, I personally feel that comments like pixxxie's are misguided. The method sould not be paramount to the image and message, esp in an applicaction like a tee.

As an excuse for using the brush, I am still new @ graphic design, and esp. for threadless. on the plus side, I've created my own vector based brush which doesn't have the annoying 'tail' @ the top, and has much bolder veins (the PS brush's veins are thinner and a little more spotty). I saw this design on an unclaibrated emac under tube lights, and it looked monotone... On the plus side, indexed color is great BC it allows for easy changes to the colors. I can increase the contrast very easily.

I'm glad that you all like the message... it is the main point of the shirt, but about improvements, what shape would look more 'leafy'??

perhaps a maple leaf? - personally, I feel that all the little barbs are distracting, and @ this scale, tend to get lost... though aspen leaf style little points might look good.

BC i'm new @ this, I'd love to hear specific suggestions for improvements.

I apopogize for the PS brush,

I think it would look cool if you did all sorts of different leaves, and maybe have them changing colors like spring to autumn, you know?

OK... so having even longer to look @ my design, I'm going to have 3+ types of leaves, all in diff colors, possibly creating a subtle gradient. the last question I have is wether to make it like it is where the shape is implied, or more like a solid shape with edges that cut the leaves and form the symbol, slicing like a cookie cutter into a pile of leaves or a pile of carefully arranged, whole leaves.

it's kinda hard to tell it's a recycling sign. i'd make it clearer... that's kinda hard to do with whole leaves though.

If you didnt make an outline and use the leaf from the symbol library in illustrator, it might have possibly been a decent idea.

nice try, but needs more refining.

joel-I most certianly did not use an outline! I did rotate the one arrow thrice, but it's completely hand-brushed!

speaking of which, it's a photoshop brush... I don't even own illustrator! (a lot better, eh?)
