The Light blue shirt with pink is my favorite. The red makes the skulls too obvious.

Yeah, the light blue is the best.

I like the illustration, but I think your message is a little too literal with the skulls on the berries.
kevindujour
   kevindujour on Oct 21 '05
I dunno. It's still better than most people's subs.

i love the style. retro makes me happy.

retro makes me happy too gemmabear! thanks guys!

Kevindujour- without the skulls its just some girl pickin fruit? it didn't actually HAVE the message unless you knew the title of that. And there are so many tshirts that feel like inside joke... and I didn't want to fall into that catergory!

Thanks for the feedback!

I was just thinking there might be other ways to illustrate that these fruit are poisonous, or forbidden, without using the skull. The skull to me is a really easy way to express that they are forbidden, but I don't like how the skull is just 'on' the berries.

I'm just saying that there could be a different/better way to express your concept, like possibly having a snake wrapped around the branch looking at the little girl.

How about, skulls sell. Go Sarahrae!

I like the dakota blue and the scarlet. There's somethign about the blue hair that does it for me.
sarahrae
sarahrae on Oct 21 '05
kevin-- i toyed with a snake, but it became difficult because of the color limitations. it stood out ALOT because the colors i was able to use were the bright ones. And truth be told, I'm not that good yet and all my snakes came out really cartoony :)

Thanks for the inpit I appreciate it!

schaden--skulls do fortunately sell. And secretly... I am still an occasional hot topic shopper. But I won't ever admit that outloud... wait....

the main image has 5 colors but the outside ones seem to be only 4.

i like it on lt.blue and brown best. black might look cool too... 5, nice job.

I think that the slate shirt is best... but could probably live with the brown or scarlet.

sarahrae on Oct 21 '05
oh! good eye franx.... I didn't match up the browns! thanks for the headsup. They are meant to be the same thing!!

I looked at the khaki one while you were working on it and I never noticed the extra color.

I still like the Dakota Slate one.

I like for her to wear pink. I say Choco and light blue. Because I would wear this -- because I really like the idea, the placement, and the style in general.

i prefer brown. brown + pink = always a winner.
sarahrae
sarahrae on Oct 21 '05
i would agree. brown and pink are always winners. unless it's a game of chess. and i don't think colors can play chess.

or can they :)

Shorten the branch by half and enlarge the fruit, so people don't have to get in your face to see the skulls.

Oh, and my 'usual'... BLACK shirt, please, and I'd buy it...

4, as is.
sarahrae
sarahrae on Oct 21 '05
thanks erichews... I was uneasy about making the skulls bigger because I didn't want it to be "another shirt with skulls on it." And trust me I hate people walking up to you super duper close to see what's on your shirt... so it was a toss up.

As for the branch length, I was trying to have it take up more space on the chest so it was a little more balanced on the shirt...

(for some reason i always feel compelled to tell people why i did what i did, so basically i talk to much?)

No, no, no... I appreciate your logic and see the merit in it.

I still want the black shirt, though. Good luck.

This is awesome. I wish the girl had a whole body, but if not maybe another placement on the shirt?

Anyways, $$$ and 555. I need this.

sarahrae on Oct 21 '05
erichews... seems like every black shirt that my hubby (rudeboyzach) has ever submitted has gotten shot down.... personally, 99% of my wardrobe is black, but it seems that those khaki ones seem to do well with the threadless kids, everybody says black shirts looks like band shirts.

i think my first take on the design was a black shirt with just white and red, and while that's still my favorite, everyone I showed it to said it looked like a hot topic type shirt.
sarahrae
sarahrae on Oct 21 '05
hey hankchinasky... I hope it is a winner too. thanks!
daahhling
daahhling on Oct 22 '05
i mean black is OKAY but...i don't know. it's nice to have something DIFFERENT from black for a change, since you're right and so many band shirts are black. i have like 32847 black band shirtsand sometimes it gets old.

The red is too bright on everything...I'd go with a dusty pink. Something cooler color-wise.
sarahrae
sarahrae on Oct 22 '05
degrassi- I was trying to stick closer to a true 50-ish illustration type. Someone would go in and do inks and then typically then would lay down only one ink color and it was usually a bright standard color. Be it red, yellow, orange... whatever. So I was tryin to stay more vintage. Thats why I did the one in soft pinks because i wanted to have the option there for people. Thanks for voting!!

aztlgrl- thanks, I hope they do too!!

daahling- i am the first one to wear a black shirt, i just wanted to make sure there were options incase there were kids out there that wanted something a bit brighter! thanks for checkin it out!

Very, very cool. I say go with the light blue or the chocolate. The slate is pretty wonderful, too, though. Wonderful design. Great work.

6 colors?
sarahrae
sarahrae on Oct 23 '05
mvmm_420-well the main one has 5, and i addressed that up above. the darker brown in the actual design itself should be the shirt color....

but how on earth do you get 6?

and thanks rebecca jane!!

cattrfly on Oct 23 '05
Wow, I absolutely LOVE this! I adore its "vintage children's book illustration" style, and the image is wonderfully sized, balanced, and placed for a t-shirt design (IMO, anyway). The khaki version is my favorite - I prefer the bi-colored fruit, and the whole color scheme just really "pops" in this one - but I'm not sure I'd love it as much with the darker brown replaced by the khaki (curse that 4-color limit!). Barring the possibility of a black version I'd go with the dakota slate and scarlet as my 2nd/3rd choices; the versions with the pink seem a bit insipid to me - or maybe it's just my anti-pink bias... ;). Ooh, and with the slate/red you could re-add the 2nd fruit color, right? Or not... hell, I'll buy it even if it's printed pink ON pink, just as long as it's printed. ;D

BTW, your "Mom was right all along" is one of my all-time favorite T-less subs (with shadow, of course - I always have to want the impossible ;P), and each week I keep hoping that it'll turn up among the "newly printed" shirts so I can adorn myself with its sublime silliness. =D Actually, I feel similarly about several of your hubby's subs, too, but I'll stop babbling now before I slip into a "screw everyone else, why can't they just print the shirts *I* want" tantrum... O.o

cattrfly- Thanks for all the kind words!! With the slate/red versions, I am still at 4 colors since I have to count the white. Grrrr! And I wish Mom was right all along would print too... it makes me giggle everytime I go look at it again! Thanks again!!

And thanks to you last 4 commenters! Much appreciated!

loose the white outline. love it.
sarahrae
sarahrae on Oct 27 '05
luke up above wasn't a fan of the white outline either, however, I think it grounds the piece. Because I only did it as part of her body, I didn't want it to look like the rest of her body just vanished, or as someone else said, stuck in quick sand.... the outline gives it a boundry so you aren't left questioning where the rest of the branch is and where the rest of her body is. that's its only puprose.
(i only say these things, because i want people to know why i did what i did and that i didnt just add a bad design element for the heck of it)

anyway... thanks kat! much appreciated!
