About my design
by Rockslide
Well hello. This is my submission for the URB contest. I saw a lot of people literally illustrating "Vinyl, cassette, and files" so I wanted to do something a little different. I decided that the vinyl could be a vinyl jacket, and the files could be her filing her nails. (that may be obvious, but I knew someone would ask.) So, I wanted to include a panda and a polar bear and a bleeding heart, but then I saw that apparently people have already done that. Maybe next time. Oh! and a squid.

awesome take on that. i'd but it. it gives me a sense of female power too, she sassy, confident, and obviously knows her music. would be interesting, however, to see the design in lower lefthand corner of shirt, but other than that, i love it.

Nice. I've seen a few Urb submissions that I liked, but this is the first one I'd actually wear.

FINALLY!

something that is totally off of it, but completely on the mark...

i like something that's abit more "femmy", but not extremely girly... and this is it. I'd love to wear this on a white, or a black, or medium/light blue shirt... no pinks. pinks are the devil. i think i'd like a lower ocrner as well, even though it is still strong centralized.

actually... if its in the center, it'd be better for a tank top...

that's really nice, you haven't taken it as literally as everyone else. I like it...a lot

Whoa- you guys are too kind, I didn't expect such a response so soon. This was my first submission here too. Thanks Pico on the colors. I have never had such a limited palette before, I ran into trouble on the radio, but in the end I kinda liked how it turned out. Who would have thought a flesh color could be used for metal. Thanks again for the warm welcome.

i know a few people are telling you this but i think its about time someone did something that was off the beaten path. i mean yeah, there's a jacket and a file but its not what you expect. i like it, the girl looks like something out of my sketchbook and its refreshingly different.

very nice illustration...
i like how the thin lines used for the hair are repeated in the sweater ribs, and show design repitition in the strappy shoe-lace-thingys....nice job

great illustration, and a great t-shirt design. i love your choice of color.

but somehow, i don't think it really fits in with URB mag's image/affiliation with the underground music scene. the image of the girl is slightly too main stream... something like a limited too or old navy advertisement [especially with the nail file].

it's a cute play on words, and best of luck to you. anyway, even if it doesn't work out for URB, it should be a candidate for the on-going contest.

Way to think outside the box!! Aso great use of color - when i look at it, it just seems like complete picture and not a strain to limit color

5$. Rare that designs on white appeal to me, but this one does. Your comments made me laugh, Rockslide. Nicely done all around.

i think you should resub this design. maybe have the girl leaning back, not filing her nails. lower right placement, blue shirt. she could just be hanging on a porch step or a sidewalk, on a sunny day, cool and relaxed, listening to her music. maybe have music notes coming out of the boombox. just a couple ideas, but i already like the shirt as is. impressive for a first sub.
