the word comformity makes my teeth grind and my eyelids flicker irritably. it shouldn't be used by anyone under 20. ironically, by denouncing this teen slogan your very neatly conforming to a stereotype. learn another word. shit design as well

I don't know if Fortino should be so harsh when he used faceless corporate guys in one of his designs here:

http://www.threadless.com/submission/46606/gotta_make_a_big_decision

That said, I like the geometry of the piece, but agree that the text can go.

Maybe there is a way to communicate the anti-conformity message visually? Have some guy standing of the side all loopy and fluid like he's on acid or something.

I'm such a nonconformist that I'm not going to go with the other nonconformists who say this design sucks. (Watch South Park if you're slow to this.)

You get a 4... no text needed.

BOOOOOO!!!! This is my design, I sell it on istock! You Didn't even change it that much! At least I got $.20.

Check it out-

I did use that as the source file which is allowed under istockphoto license agreement as I understand it. As I read the agreement selling on t-shirts is allowed just not "print on demand" such as cafepress. Kind of like modifying a piece of clipart. It was bought and paid for at istockphoto and modified for this layout.

from the istock license agreement:

"PERMITTED USES:

3. You may:...

(e) use the Derivative Works in the same manner as permitted in section 3(c) above, and in items for resale including t-shirts, mugs, calendars and mouse pads"

To tell you the truth I am more flattered than anything. I'm just glad someone is buying and using it.

waitaminute, you suck, why would you want to post a design based on some one elses, thats pointless, what goes on in your mind? who cares about the license agreement

Give me a break. Take a look at what's currently for sale at threadless:

http://www.threadless.com/product/306/Evolution - Ever seen a bathroom door? Where did those characters come from?

http://www.threadless.com/product/291/Chance - based on a trademarked product - who designed rich uncle pennybags?

http://www.threadless.com/product/299/The_Family_Portrait_Had_To_Be_Rescheduled - a trademarked product

http://www.threadless.com/product/285/Operation_Needed - a trademarked product

these designs all are based on pre-existing artwork and designs. And there are plenty more both currently for sale and retired. How many are based on a previously designed piece of art or product?

Personally I love conformity!

me too! me too!

Seriously though. It may not be completely original but nobody's been ripped off. Who here is a pro designer? Do you use stock photography or do you shoot everything yourself so "it's all yours"?

$4 (lose the type) I'll wear it along with everyone else.

it seems against the spirit of this site to me, to put up some elses design that you changed a lil bit and added text to. id use stock for a commercial job that i didnt give a shit about, but this site gives people an oppurtunity to showcase their own design and illustration ideas and get feedback from their peers. i just dont understand why youd bother doing that.

all the examples you gave arent the same because most of them are about recontextualising graphics we are all familiar with for humourous or satirical purposes

on top of it being a rip off, it is dull.

like my mom told me when i got cought shoplifting d + d dice,

"son, if you are going to steal, steal big."

word.
hitjim
hitjim on Sep 28 '05
visually, it works. move the text to silhouette the image if anything. or nix it.

i personally don't like the idea. anymore people take "be yourself" to mean "you have to do something no one else is doing, or has done, or something that will make someone else react in shock" ... when the reality is that, with 6 billion people in the world, you're likely to be very VERY similar to alot of people. especially in trying to do the impossible of being completely unique.

being unique by happenstance (b/c by chance you actually stand out) is a perk. to be different for the sake of standing out is vanity to the nth degree.

forgive my rant... i did at least try to give you feedback on the image before going on my tangent.

best of luck.
