About my design

by bonedaddy
My friend wrote a book concerning Dr. Frankenstein's court case and based it all on medical law and circumstances of the actual story of Frankenstein. Kind of the 'what happens next' of the story we all know. And, he made the 'monster' a very cultured individual, but lonely (of course).

Hope you dig.

I'm not so keen on the color. I'd like to see this in grays with lighter (more acid) green accents.

BUT Lincoln? This is the most offensive thing I’ve ever seen. You’ve made a monster out of our nation’s greatest president. WHY? Because he freed the slaves? All it's missing is your "White Power" text.

--- lucylove ----

What the hell are you talking about? Lincoln is only in the name and if you read the first post on how I came up to this, then you would understand.

IT'S BASED ON A BOOK! Screw you. Maybe you should have blamed this design offending you on Bush. ('Cause you know, he hates black people too.)

bon daddy, it sucks when people don’t bother to read your explanation or choose to ignore it altogether. Then again when you are walking down the street people looking at this shirt don’t have the opportunity to read your explanation anyway - some might jump to the same conclusion. Personally I like it, but I would hate trying explaining my way out of a beating for wearing it. So I wouldn’t wear it but it still gets a 5 for the artwork

"Maybe you should have blamed this design offending you on Bush. ('Cause you know, he hates black people too.) "

TOO?

i know you didn't mean to include that word as using it implies that you hate black people as well - just trying to head off the hate.
bonedaddy
bonedaddy on Sep 20 '05
I was being sarcastic because I was blamed for 'white power' which constitutes hating blacks. Which I don't and is absolutely reprehensible.

Merely trying to point out how offensive it is to be 'told' you are something you're not. She implied I was racist. If you knew me and what I believe in, you would know this is about as offensive a thing you could possibly say to me. How you could come to that conclusion based on the artwork is beyond me.

Please read the explanation and appreciate the artwork for what it is.

Just to be inflammatory, Lincoln didn't free the slaves 'cause he was a nice guy, he did it to fiscally cripple the south.... Seriously. People have written books about it. Freeing the slaves was a great thing... Slavery is a bad mark on our nation’s history (one of many bad marks)...

But to call this submission hateful or “white power” or anything is seriously retarded. I just hope that “lucylove” was trying to be funny or something.

I like this submission. The art is GREAT, but I’m not sold on the colors.

I give it a $5

why is it great?

who cant stick one famous head on another famous body?

no big concept that I can see.

It makes perfect sense for people to think the message is Lincoln was a monster, NOT that the monster was a cultured individual.

It's not hateful, just dumb.

I would have liked it better if it had the colors you used in the cover of the book. If you put the design over a dark gray background you can pull the 4 color limit. Give it a try and see how it looks.

Good job!

I am a proud African-American woman. Let me tell you that I find any pictures that demoralize Lincoln, or ones that glorify a rebel flag offensive. I wouldn’t think that you would have to grow up black in this country to understand why. Furthermore I do not care one bit about Lincoln’s motives for abolishing slavery, I care about his actions as a man. I am not interested in your reasons for creating this shirt, I’m telling you that this submission hurts me and my people more deeply than you can possibly understand. I would ask that you have it removed from the running. Let’s see what your actions as a man will be.

I agree with what Blandford said. I dont think this design is bad or all that controversial, I just don't think it's portraying the message about the monster that you were intending.

I reminds me of the Family Guy episode when George Washington on Mt. Rushmore says Lincoln looks like Frankenstein

Frankenstein is still misunderstood. Sad.

I -like- the design. And if it offends people? Too bad. That's foolish. Let's hope it inspires some of these people to actually read a book or two, no?
sailonsilvergirl
sailonsilvergirl on Sep 22 '05
lucylove, maybe more of "your people" should learn a bit about Lincoln.

Although Lincoln was personally opposed to slavery, his primary concern with the issue was how its divisiveness affected the United States, not the liberation of the Black man. Had the Union been able to survive half slave and half free without erupting into war, Lincoln's stated position was that he would have allowed the institution of slavery to remain intact and die a slow death. Lincoln's only real expression of civil rights was his support for the idea of relocating free Blacks to Liberia so they could live apart from whites in a separate society. Even Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation was issued as an exigency of war, not as measure intended to permanently end slavery in the USA, and constitutional amendments ending slavery and guaranteeing citizens of all races the right to vote were not enacted until after Lincoln's death.

p.s. I did not personally write that paragraph.

If you didn’t read my blog “What the hell happened” let me give you the short story. It turns out lucylove is my boss. We fought for about 12 hours straight over this shirt. She is a very passionate lady. HOWEVER, when I pointed out to her that this shirt would be protected by the first amendment no matter what it’s message it shut her up quick. This is the first argument I’ve ever won with her. My boss has promised me that you will not hear another word from her. bonedaddy, I am truly sorry that my involvement with this site dumped all this on your head. I hope we are cool.

Brotherman…didn't read your blog. Must have missed it - I will do so now.

The least I can say is it hasn't bothered me yet. No worries - I really think she had some kind of 'cry wolf' syndrome before she ever realized there was no wolf.

Free speech on her part. I obviously didn't do a good enough job explaining my purposes. Even so, I don't ever try to directly offend anyone. I don't think I did here either. I guess thank you for sticking up for me?
