Yet We Survive
About the design
on September 8, 2005
The world can be a dangerous place. Yet somehow, between the disaster and the hatred and the pain, we survive. Despite the endless tragedies: the articulately designed, the carelessly blundered and even the blameless turbulence of the earth beneath our feet, we are still here.
Just be fucking proud that you are a member of the most resilient species this hostile little planet will ever see.
I am sorry if I have neglected things that you feel have a right to be on here. As I’m sure you can understand, it would be impossible to fit every deserving event on the chart, no matter how much I’d like to.
Typos are still a possibility. I have thoroughly checked it over, but I am not the best speeler in the world.
I hope you appreciate my Painbow.

Too Much Info for a tee and why the rainbow colors?
amigovirgen
to small for a tee
but great for revolution!!!!
Boy_number_15
Hasnt this been posted before?

Addressing the concern that the text is too small for a t-shirt: let's assume that the boys and girls at Threadless can make this work and print the shirt so that all text may be legible.
Based on this assumption, is this a design that you all would like to see printed?
I love both the elegance and profoundness of the design. Well done, Moss.

Ahhhh... tragedy is gay.

how many times am I allowed to vote?
I love it. Intense, well done and cheers.

doesnt work.. rise and fall? freytag's rainbow?

I appreciate the sentiment and sophistication of this design. However, rainbows are almost always associated with Gay Pride. When viewed from a distance, the design may be dismissed as such and the real meaning/intent would be lost.
dymod
Depressing. Leaves me wondering what other horrible stuff is coming next.
skye!
i like it a lot but i think that the text is to small
i blame history
this is wonderful. the text is small, but small text can be printed, and i like it.
i really, really hope this design is printed. i would buy it with absolutely no hesitation.
as a note about the gay pride association... that wouldnt bother me at all (im not gay, but i simply wouldnt care)... but, as this rainbow doesnt follow the "roy g biv" scheme, i dont think it would be associated with gay pride at all. at least thats not what i saw at first glance. cant have a pride rainbow without the purple, in my opinion!
i may just cry if i cant buy this shirt. $5

interesting concept... i like it. :) $4

I LOVE this shirt, and think it would also look great on a black tee, to make the bright colors pop even more.
lesquelette
We have made a mess of things haven't we?
Love the design $555
do you know fokt?
actually, it does follow roygbiv. the colors are in the same order, just some are omitted due to printing constraints. where the hell is the famine caused by the cultural revolution, Yitzhak Rabin, Pompeii or the time I got dumped by a really really hot girl? I mean, she was seriously hot.
Elburrito
I want it!!!!
LovelyLarry
i love it and i hate rainbows. i would wear it. $5
from the thumbnail i thought it would be a shirt making a joke about how we survived the yoyo fad of '75.
Iwouldbejosh
I still think that the "2001 - 9/11 WTC" is wrong. It should say "2001 - Terrorist attacks on US" or something instead since it wasn't just the World Trade Center, but the Pentagon that was attacked, and another plane that was headed for the White House.

better as a poster?
poisedesign
i love this. it's perfect... great design, a concept behind... i want 1 now.

Moss you know I love your designs, and apart from the already mentioned gay pride issue, I think that some of these 'tragic world events' are very subjective. I mean, i think more chileans would have been affected by the events of 9/11/1973 than the chilean earthquake in 1960. Moreover a few Nicaraguans living in rural Nicaragua in 1983 might have a few things to say about leaving them 'of the map'. Or the Sudanese that were adversly affected by the bombing of the Al-Shifa Pharmaceutical Factory in Khartoum in 1998. I suppose what I'm trying to say is, that however noble the message is supposed to be, or passionate for that matter, it will never truely be a design appreciated or accepted by all, because one persons tragedy is sometimes anothers reason to celebrate.

"'Just be fucking proud that you are a member of the most resilient species this hostile little planet will ever see."
you could also say that we are a member of the most hostile species this resilient little planet will ever see.
good message
trickwave
But... it would be go out of date as soon as the following years bring tragedies of their own.
Nice color coding though.

i don't get t-shirts with a message. to me the t-shirt is a little more lighthearted than that.
stuck with pins
And you guys complain that I'M too negative.
Haha.
Another brilliant design from Mr. Olly Moss.

The silkscreened label on a Threadless shirt has the level of detail that this would require. Follow It is also a small-detail-oriented shirt that works fine. So, no technical obstacle. (People who actually work for Threadless are allowed to dispute that.)
helo
This is like a Debbie Downer designed shirt.
You see it from afar and you're full of joy,
but when you get close and start noticing
all the tragedies listed you can almost hear
the Debbie Downer whaaa.. whuuu.. trumpet
sound.
WhattheFernando
I like the idea, but that is a lot to read, I don't think people would want to wear a reading rainbow.
jackanapes
hmm. kinda cool. but makes me think of gay pride too much. like, "yet, gay people survive". not that i hate gay people, just, how do they survive without us to breed 'em?
Rahna
No gay issues here. I don't get that vibe of fit at all, becuase of the missing stripes in the rainbow. Like it was said earlier, can't have a gay pride rainbow without the purple! ;)

i absolutely love it. i might cry if it isn't printed.
is there a close up of the picture so i can read the text?
themidtownkoala
Wow eskimokiss, I sure am glad you spoke up so now I know how derned smart and educated you are.
cujoelwally
Very, very amazing. I'm stunned by it.
One thing I noticed is that there's only two events between 1990 and 2001. I think the Oklahoma City bombing, the bombings in Bosnia, and the Columbine shootings are all important events that could go on it. The sad events at the Waco Branch Davidian compound would be a fitting addition.
Those are just my thoughts though.
heart at war
i can hardly see it as it is... i cant imagine wearing it
loglow
Yeah, I'd love this as a poster too.
Mr. Monkey
Me too.
robynleigh
This is amazing. I would definately buy.
MoniqueH
The colours actually mean things so stop complaining and saying it's a gay rainbow.
oscarnoah
it makes me sad that it's so much more dificult to quantify our greatest triumphs. No one can deny that these are horrible things, but if you tried to put out nice things, we'd all be arguing till the cows come home which is the most deserving. Some accomplishments I think are nice:
Jazz
The Sandwich
The Bicycle
The Civil Rights March on Washington
DJLadyPope
I love it. I love the message. I love EVERYTHING about it. I'd buy six and year them all at the same time. In August. In Arizona. I LOVE IT! $5

year = wear.
Beware the exicted post.

How can you not give this a good score? I just wish it weren't on a navy tee with those colors.
