It's not a bad design at all, but you can get so much of this kind of thing over on ThinkGeek, so I guess I'm a bit over 1337 shirts.

I like 1337, but not love it, however I do understand it... it says: "It's all 1337 to me"

Very funny! If Threadless doesn't pick this up, try either ThinkGeek.com or Jinx.com.

thanks for letting me know about those other sites, guys! I had no idea they existed :)

for those who are wondering,

1337 =
leet =
"l"+"eet" =
"el" + "ite" =
elite

Here's a URL for those who want
to know what 1337 (leet) is about

http://www.answers.com/leet

My constructive criticism :

Excellent use of shirt and ink colors.
Great concept and excellent execution.
At first I wasn't sure about the blocky
font on the keys, but the more I looked at it
the more I realized it fits the attitude of the
design's message.

I prefer the old school green shirt barely
over the blue screen of death one. Let's
hear it for monochromatic monitors !
( I hated those amber ones though. )

Kelseyg on Sep 12 '05
Eh... seems very thinkgeek to me. I don't feel that it fits in with the rest of the shirts here.

my 'nerd alert' alarm just went off... it cycled through a few klaxons, then it broke, and now it's just stuck in a low beep.

1337 is old and annoying, sorry

1337 isn't so much nerd as it is pimple-faced thirteen year-old boys who want nothing but to play games and feel like heroes on the internet, thier sole source of "power" due to the fact that no one can see what a joke they really are.

In other wods, I hate "leetspeak".

i'm going to give this a 1 and wait for them to reprint The Internet, sorry. i'd fucking love a shirt that refences 1337 and other lame nerd shit, but it actually has to look like something i'd wear?

powdermonky, what do you mean? what else would you like to see?
and just for the record, I am not "leet" at all, the wordplay just popped into my head one day and I thought it was funny. Thanks again for the feedback

to acrow :

read through the comments and you'll see
some information and a URL that will
help answer your question.

to those who just say they dislike things
associated with leet :

Your score alone is enough to communicate
a negative feeling about a design. This section
for comments is a place for constructive
criticism in a respectful manner. Please
take the time to dwell on the fact that
constructive criticism is not the same
as declaring your displeasure with a
design. Here's a good definition of
constructive criticism :

"Constructive criticism is the process
of offering valid and well-reasoned
opinions about the work of others,
usually involving both positive and
negative comments, in a friendly
manner rather than an oppositional
one."

Just a note to all who might be missing
the neat twist in QuirkSilver's design :

There's a popular idiom that goes,
"It's all Greek to me."

QuirkSilver has used leetspeak
as a clever twist to communicate
a modernized version of the
popular idiom above.

Here's the origin and meaning
of the popular idiom.

"This expression was coined by Shakespeare,
who used it literally in Julius Caesar (1:2),
where Casca says of a speech by Seneca,
deliberately given in Greek so that some
would not understand it, “For mine own part,
it was Greek to me.” It soon was transferred
to anything unintelligible."

I'm more of a buyer than a designer.

I like to come up with ideas, but
bringing them to life is another story.
talisker

looks nice but...
I feel like enough of a geek as it is,
I don't really need to put it on a T-shirt and flash it arround.

hahaha, talisker! that is an acceptable reason :)

helo, interested in some kind of merger? :)
I am not the best designer ever, but I am kind of in the practicing stage. I think it would be a good experience for both of us
we seem to understand how each other thinks, so I think that that would be fun
lemme know, and no hard feelings if you don't like the idea :)
helo
helo on Sep 15 '05
There may be something better than a merger.

I've noticed on the Blog Forum of Threadless
that some designers put preliminary designs
up for others to comment on before doing a
final draft to submit. The advantage is that
you get not one person's input, but a host of
opinions and comments that can help a
design be the lean mean image to collect
the $ 1,000 monthly prize.

My ideas tend to be improvements on
already existing ideas.

Here's two examples :

http://threadless.com/submission/46578/Batman_Plays_Guitar_Too!
I suggest the hoodie Batman be shown barefoot in jeans.

http://threadless.com/submission/52990/Know_Your_Roots
I suggest a tree with wire roots plugged into
old video game consoles underground and its
fruit being the old hand controllers to the consoles.

Feel free to use the tree idea. Stagg said he's too lazy
to draw it up.

The possible problem with us having a
merger would be trying to figure out
how to split any kind of winnings.
So to keep problems from occuring
how about we try two designs with
you keeping any winnings if they
come? This way we'll have fun bumbling
through the learning process and not
worrying about money/prizes. I suggest
we put your artwork in the Blog Forum
in order to get feedback before a final
draft is done.

Do you have Yahoo instant messaging?
QwirkSilver
QwirkSilver on Sep 15 '05
that sounds great!
I don't have yahoo IM, but I will get it to chat with you
Same user name

I have another idea in the works; a cool idea, but need improvement on the design, so we can discuss that

Grr. I hate leet speak, oh, I mean 1337 speak. It's so stupid, can't people type normal over internet conversations?
QwirkSilver
QwirkSilver on Sep 17 '05
Okay, for everyone's information... I am the designer. I NEVER use 1337 speak. I type normal conversations over the internet. I just thought that the idea was clever, so I designed the shirt. I STILL think that the idea is clever, and I really believe that most people would, too, if they didn't automatically HATE it because it has the word "1337". I am more making fun/HAVING FUN with that sort of internet lingo than I am promoting it.
Thanks to everyone who actually had something useful to say.
