the question might make more sense if he was saying "Mother, am I adopted?"

also, maybe it's just me, but these birds do look pretty similar. maybe if i was a seasoned birdwatcher i'd know for sure that they were different. maybe you could make it more obvious that they are differnt species birds.

i think the idea is good, but execution needs work.

The bird on the left is a Cuckoo and the one on the right a Wren. I think I might have needed to make the different colours for this to be more apparent. Thanks for the comments.

Without the text it wouldn't make any sense, but i suggest using a differen't font. the image and the text just don't blend too well. i agree that the difference between the birds should be more exagerated. A little more work in those respects and it will be perfect. :)

the wern will be perfect with some coloured feathers to underline the difference from the cuckoo.
i'll love it!

the text on the shirt has the proper comma, right?

It would be funny if the baby bird was a sloth

hahaha,
im going to have to agree ^^

daahhling on Aug 23 '05
haha yeah def $ for the sloth. the birds look the same to me...one just looks smaller, but if it was a baby then wouldn't it be smaller anyway? at least make one of them a parrot or something.

kidderliverpool on Aug 23 '05
The 'baby' is actually the Wren on the right, which is the mother.

The birds look nothing alike, although some color might look more interesting. You could clarify which bird was speaking, open mouth maybe or speech bubble?

thats not a wren...
astrobabe

The whole idea behind this is that cuckoos lay their eggs in other birds nests. The baby cuckoo on the left has therefore been raised by the very small sparrow type bird on the right (the 'mother').

I can't be the only one who 'gets' this.

Or am I just an egg head? (groan)

Thank you astrobabe. Reading through the comments I thought I was going to have to explain the joke to everyone. I'm guessing since not many got it right away that this won't be made into a shirt. Shame I like this one.

Thanks astrobabe, that is the idea behind it. The right hand bird is based on an English Wren. My photograph of it is here.

I got it. I'd like a different font, and "Mother, am I adopted?" as suggested before.

The drawing is good but the composition doesn't really "flow" and the font doesn't work with it. Try again.

Nice idea. The text style wouldn't be my first choice and I'd probably make it a bit more obvious which bird is asking it, but I think it's pretty cool

The birds are a little cliché, but its nice to see someone with some drawing skills rather than some stock outline.

I admit I didn't get the joke being based on cuckoos leaving eggs in other birds' nests. I liked it anyway. But now that I understand it, I like it even more.

love the idea, really cool but i agree maybe some colour and some less in your face font x

i get the whole cuckoo-wren idea...but that could be because im a biology nerd....love it and would definantly buy!!!!

but it would be funnier if the cuckoo was a cat or a sloth (as suggested before)

Maybe if the question was phrased differently...since the cuckoo is crying his mum has already shared the news with him so "Am I adopted?" wouldn't work any more than what's already there. But, that's just my opinion.

I think it should be "Mother, am I adopted?"

Seems like a joke that only people who know those birds would understand. I sure don't get it, and the positioning of the text sure doesn't help. Can't honestly tell who is saying the line.

Laconfir on Aug 27 '05
I like it but as with the first comment, the "Mother, Am I Adopted" would work better... I am adopted too so I'd love this shirt. Anyway, nice design overall!

I really like this t-shirt, and if the question was slightly rephrased i would buy it. Im very surprised at how few people understood the joke, i thought it was something that everyone knew :s
