This design was inspired by an exhibit at Los Angeles' wonderfully eclectic Museum of Jurassic Technology, which describes the life cycle of a (fictional) fungus that is able to spread its spores from the jungle canopy by infecting the brain of a ground-dwelling ant. Interestingly enough, a real-life counterpart to the fake exhibit does exist, with an even more unlikely life cycle...

I've read about this strange spore that infects the ant's brain...it causes the ant to climb to the highest place it can find, and clamp on with its jaws. The fungus then consumes the host, and the carcas turns into more spores, and so on. As interesting as this is, I wouldn't want to wear it on a shirt. Anyone who recognizes the image would be as big, if not a bigger dork than I am, so no thanks to that meeting.

Nihilboy, you have a point, but I stand by my dorkiness! I thought the brain-infecting spore would make a useful metaphor for the viral marketing culture. Or maybe I'm overreaching.

Not interestng at all. A giant ant??? No one is going to understand you thought behind it. Not something i would want my man to wear.

I agree with TerraPowell. People will just look at the shirt and see a giant ant with a spore-that's it. I don't like it.

I like it a lot. I would buy this and wear it very proudly. :) Fascinating stuff.

Heh, as an aside - if you make the ant look more robotic and don a 3-piece, and corporate up the fungus a little, that might improve marketability. :)
