About my design

by freedumsan
Dusty old slogan from Russian & Ukranian history: \\\"Anarkhiya Mat\\\' Poryadka.\\\" It means \\\"Anarchy - Mother Of Stability\\\" or \\\"Anarchy - Mother of Social Order.\\\" Russian philosophers Mikhail Bakunin & Peter Kropotkin advocated a constructive anarchism, a form of radical democracy, similar to what\\\'s called \\\"Jeffersonian Democracy\\\" in the USA, where power flows from the bottom up

Five for the awesome design, but I'd never wear it simply because it's anarchistic propaganda.
freedumsan
freedumsan on Jul 19 '05
yeah, i hear what you're saying, little_hobbit_feet. it's usually a bad idea to wear propaganda art unless you understand what it's about.

i'd probably not wear anything with a National Flag or the Big Business brand on it because i don't like State or Private Tyranny propaganda. glad you like the design and thanks for checking it out.

Anarchism was once described as a "beast with a broad back." These days you can find everyone from Commies, to Primitivists, to Collectivists, to right wing Anarchists. For example,

http://www.anti-state.com/

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarcho-capitalism

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchism

In the United States there's also the Libertarian Party that is a right wing "anarchistic" organization that proposes a platform of laissez-faire capitalism and absolutist civil liberties.

I like it but i would get tired of explaining what it says to everyone. Because everyone would ask.

anarchy is fine unless people vote for it, then it's just hypocrisy.

I will happily vote for this shirt, however, because the DESIGN is sharp and I love cyrillic text.

anyone that suggests that wearing such a shirt spreads "anarchistic propaganda" is overreacting.

Wierd. I submit a tiger a couple of days ago then see another tiger design. Now the same happens with a flower at the barrel of a gun. I feel like a clairvoyant plagiarist.

Nice typo, angles, colours, forms and message. Simple and complex at the same time. What 2D design is all about

gorabbit, i totally know what you mean. i've screen printed a few of these at home and people do ask. it's a conversation starter, i've even met some cuties because of it.
freedumsan
freedumsan on Jul 20 '05
hey deeves, clairvoyance is under-rated. besides, it's not like i invented the juxtaposition of flower & a gun.
freedumsan
freedumsan on Jul 20 '05
redpanic, anarchists are all about voting actually, whether by consensus, 2/3 majority, straight majority or other decision-making mechanisms. but yeah, it would be quite ironic if this shirt actually gets voted on enough to get printed by this website, you're totally right.

that cartoon is a pretty good description of the misconception many high school kids have about the word, idea of anarchy in the United States, quite often because they don't read so good or so much.

i've seen right wing anti-statists discuss Somalia and the lack of government there: http://www.somalianarchy.com/

as far as the libertarian left, i haven't heard any serious person talk of Somalia as an example of anarchism or anarchy in practice in any sort of constructive or meaningful way. if you're interested in examples of anarchism in practice, you can check out:

Sam Dolgof's "The Anarchist Collectives: Workers Self-Management in the Spanish Revolution, 1936-1939"

http://akpress.org/1996/items/anarchistcollectives

Daniel Guerin's Anarchism: From Theory To Practice.

http://www.zabalaza.net/texts/anarchism_guerin/contents.html

as far as anarchist economics, anarchists have pointed to the Israeli Kibbutz system as an example of how a constructive left anarchist economic system could function. theoretical developments at the moment include the new libertarian left proposal of Participatory Economics (Parecon)

Here's a living example of a Collectivist Anarchist economic project, done by ordinary restaurant workers in New York City who lost their jobs because of 9-11-01. These folks are not pushing any specific idealogical label, they are simply getting stuff done. They are very much concerned with the same ideals as the Spanish Anarchist Labor Movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries:

Anarchism is the way to go.

I will not go into detail, but only mention that it is the way for the liberation of mind and soul.

I wouldn't wear this shirt.

i'm down with this. thanks for the explanation, makes me able to appreciate the design a lot more. i'd totally buy/wear this. i think that threadless may not be the way to go to get this printed because of the diverse population.

if it comes down to it, and you still want this printed, give me a holler, i'm going to be working on self-printing some stuff to sell later this year. - c (dot) s (dot) reynolds (at) gmail (dot) com.

freedumsan, you are one of the first people I have ever met, with a forward view point that is against mine, that I respect because of your respect for everyone else. There's no telling just how we could manage ourselves differently unless we tried. I give you a $5, because I think your design is sweet and because I respect your attitude and where you're comng from.

"U.S. Constitution: Fourth Amendment - Search and Seizure

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."

http://caselaw.lp.findlaw.com/data/constitution/amendment04/

"City straphangers submitted calmly Friday as police inspected their bags and briefcases after the latest attacks on London's Underground. Some were skeptical, some were critical, but most said they were glad for the extra security... The New York Civil Liberties Union opposed the searches, saying they violated the Fourth Amendment. Mayor Michael Bloomberg said he hoped the NYCLU would recognize that the city had struck the right balance between security and protecting constitutional rights. He said the bag-checking program is part of a policy to 'constantly change tactics' and 'may, or may not, be there tomorrow.' The mayor declined to say how much the program cost. "

hooray.

I like the flower pot though. (:

yeah, hoorah, i see what you mean. it helps to be outgoing if your shirt says something in a different language and looks at least somewhat interestingly designed. like i said, i've met some hotties whearing my own screen & digital printed version of this shirt.

I saw this design a few weeks ago at http://www.freedombin.com and went out and purchased all the supplies to make it myself. Now seeing this, I feel somewhat guilty. But just so you know, that is how much I loved it.
