NICE. Very subtle.

chbeeston on Jun 23 '05
I don't think RELIGION in big bold letters really does anything for subtlety... but it does add to it, somehow. I usually denounce the evils of text whenever possible, but it kinda fits here. And I do like the font choice. Is there anything else you could use instead of religion? awesome graphic, by the way.
txx
txx on Jun 23 '05
does it need the wording? isn't it a bit like telling a joke and shouting the punch line? i'd consider buying it if the sub-titles for the hard of understanding were lost. as it stands, 3

Is he wearing a goddamn bomb belt?

'Cause it sure looks like he is.
Moglandor
Moglandor on Jun 23 '05
LOSE the text. The explosive belt (or what looks like it) though subtle, will definitely put off people. *I* however, would totally buy this shirt with 3 relatively minor changes: 1) lose the text, it's totally redundant 2)move the bomb belt to the outside of the robe and make it a major design element 3) put another "Islam" reference in there, so the bomb belt becomes not the "islam" reference, but a comment on the destructiveness of religion. This may be difficult though since there is a taboo on artistic depictions of Mohammed, thus nothing to crib off of.

i don't see any reference to christianity in there which is arguably responsible for most of the violence and suffering the world has sever seen.

Bomb belts don't have anything to do with religion. Most religions have rules along the lines of "Thou Shalt Not Kill". Unfortunately people are just too hungry for power to appreciate the value of human life, and so fundamentalists use religion as an excuse for senseless murder.

I may or may not wear it, I haven't decided if my mom would disown me =)

But great idea, lovely lines.

Trashcan - the outstretched "crucifiction" arms, and maybe the halo, are the Christian references.
PreacherTC
PreacherTC on Jun 23 '05
Don't like it. People who see this won't get it. The bomb belt calls too much to the Suicide Bombings, try something else if organized religion's destructive tendencies is what you're going for.
short_chef
short_chef on Jun 23 '05
Trashcan, what do you think those arms at top, spread wide, are??

And don't make the bomb belt larger, I like how you have to look for it.
Walt Lindsay
Walt Lindsay on Jun 24 '05
I love this shirt. I look at it and it says many things

1.) Religion is allll the same

2.) Religion is destructive (hence the dynamite strapped to him. People wouldn't kill themselves if they didn't think they were going somewhere after death, that's for sure.)

3.) That religions are very similar. I'm kind of being redundant.

In conclusion, love it.

Design-wise: I wouldn't put it on white. It has a tendency to make everyone look fat. And I'm still in the middle about the text.

@moglandor and shortchef-i guess you never bothered to read my follow up posted less than a minute later after i had another look at it sheesh!
Trashcan
Trashcan on Jun 24 '05
the text is pretty much redundant as it is obvious that it is a religious icon, perhaps if you had it sitting on a lotus flower, cushion, raised dais type thing.

sacri-licious! That rocks! I agree there should be another reference to Islam although the Sunna (sp?) beard is pretty good too. That is a damn fine shirt

If the bomb belt is in reference to the Muslim belief, nowhere in the Qu'ran does it say that one has to blow themselves up for Allah.

You had a great idea going for you..just get the bombs out.

i really like it. its very deep but still THERE. ok im not making sense, but still, nice design.
punk_prodigy

Nicely done, but the text is kind of redundant. But I don't see any reference to Islam....or is that the "bomb belt". Because if so, that is so stereotypical.

Without the text, and maybe this white on chocolate brown.

Lose the bombs, and It's perfect.

nice idea - i would also def buy it without the text.
Roxalannamerhana
Roxalannamerhana on Jun 27 '05
I like it. The text doesn't bother me. The shadows on the outstreched arms are a little too thick/ dark and my eye keeps getting drawn there.

And I know others will disagree with me and I can understand why, but I actually like the bomb belt, it's just the right amount of creepy and not everyone will notice it at first glance. 5, definitely.

MADELINA
MADELINA on Jun 27 '05
what i get from this shirt is that many people define a religion by having certain symbols or dressing/acting a certain way. however, what they lack is a relationship with God...i guess it kinda goes with what Tesko is saying...anyway, great graphics and great idea...especially cause it's open to interpretation... 5$

text works completely. would buy it if on color other than white. 5

Yeah, I like the picture a lot, but I think I'd like it better without the text, or with text other than "RELIGION".

ditto on all the anti text/bomb stuff..

would wear it anyway! (just not on white, would prefer bold/bright/primary colours..)

$5 anyway!
ax_man
ax_man on Jun 28 '05
i was about to skip it when i saw the bomb belt. now, its good shirt, but its not. i have no idea how to "constuctively criticize" it, but.. i guess i wouldnt buy it, but i know others would, so i guess its a 3. all i can say is show the belt a little more and dont put it on outside the house.
xdork
xdork on Jun 28 '05
i would wear this shirt,

however the reference of the bomb:

make a reference to islam somewhere other on there but keep

the bomb. interpretations may be misread & cause a scene.

The text DOES work & i'd even wear it with the text,

but I don't favor it.

It's very Powerfulll...but i dont like the text too much..or the white either really. And about the bomb thingy..could cause outburts/violence. Or maybe not.
animlcrakraholc
animlcrakraholc on Jun 29 '05
i think its an amazing shirt, but i know i could never wear it because immediately i saw the bombs as a referance to islam, and to me that doesnt make sense because so many other religions are just as violent. but if the bomb belt is there for what i would like to think it is, just for the purpose of the destructiveness of religion somthing really needs to be on there to show the islam religion.
cardboardbear
cardboardbear on Jun 29 '05
an amazing shirt, though i wouldn't wear it. great message though.
robofrance
robofrance on Jun 29 '05
Is the bomb representing Islam? If so it makes it seem like like every religion is fine except Islam, like it's just a bunch of crazies trying to blow shit up OR like Islam is the only religion who resorts to violence to get a point across. Both are comlete bullshit.

At first I though this was one of those shirts people submit where they have a symbol of every religion and say some thing stupid like "lets all get along! We're worshipping the same thing!" And if it is then it sucks even more.
arapiya
arapiya on Jun 29 '05
I really like it, but get rid of the bomb. You repersent all the other relgions equally, without making "judgements." Other than that, it's pretty clever.
