[Portuguese] Man Of War = jellyfish
Napoleon Bonaparte = greatest military genius of all time (most definitely a "man of war")

+ napoleon's hat looks like a jellyfish

Clever... but I thought it was a pirate until your explanation... Napoleon had no crazy beard, which this looks like, which distracts from his identity.

yeah i can see where you would get the pirate thing from, but the face is a really good copy of the famous napoleon painting by david where he's on a white horse. i think that makes it better, cuz it's like your own private in joke wearing it... only literate people will understand haha

I agree that it is a good copy of his face... but when you look at something from a distance or in passing and think that you see what it is, why would you look closer? If I walked passed someone wearing this, I would never think that it was Napoleon, unless I stopped them and got rather close. That's all I'm saying.

Personally I think it would be pretty sweet to have "Man 'O War" scrabbled in the tentacles.. something similar to 1 6 of 3 ( http://threadless.com/product/104/1_6_of_3 )

I knew who it was when I saw the Man O War part so that might help too...

wow! thanks for recognizing the face from the David painting. his paintings are so unbelievably inspiring in person. seriously, that comment made up for every lame/unhelpful threadless comment ive ever recieved.

about the pirate thing... i understand that too, but from far enough away the whole image looks more like a jelly fish because it is one color. I tried making the tentacles a third color but the whole design seemed too disjointed

Also, i like the text on the design, but i guess the fear of the "remove the text!" comments beat out my fear of people having no clue what the shirt was about. However, im not even sure having "man of war" on the shirt would elucidate the concept for most poeple.

having the words hidden in the tentacles is a really cool idea. I tried using the tentacles to spell out the title in cursive, but it didn't make the shirt any easier to understand

Very clever and literate play on words

it is like the line about jokes...if you have to explain them....

while i understnd the pirate illusion as well; BUT...there is no skull and crossbones which you might expect and the hat is really wrong for a pirate. Almost all pictures (backbeard included) show the priate wearing tricorns which create a chacteristic bump when viewed fromo the front.

might not be too clear, but I LOVE the idea anyway, very cool and well-executed. and anyone should know that his hat is clearly not 3-cornered like pirate hats usually are. (stereotypically speaking)

Definatley good. I think the style of the image is "pirate-ized"

Awesome job Ibn. I knew that wasn't a pirate but I didn't recognize Napoleon at first because of the long hair, but then when someone left the comment about the painting i looked it up and was amazed. Great job man... hopefully you can get enough votes to get this shirt printed in the votings slutspurt...

No one really wants to walk around explaining their shirt.

I have to post another comment to say "PLEASE PRINT THIS SHIRT"

misterdrift, EVERYONE knows thats how you pick up chicks.

i really hope this T gets printed. It would be like the biggest european history inside joke. and when people come up to you and ask why there is a pirate on your shirt, or why napoleon is a jellyfish, you can smirk on the inside.
by the way, i really like how you did his eyes.

What?? Everyone knows that Lucius Cornelius Sulla was the greatest military genius of all time -- he was even cooler than Gaius Marius. Heck, I named my cat Sulla...
Still, it is very clever, so $4

whoa! hold on now.

those are TENTACLES! NOT A BEARD! I know napoleon did not have a beard (the face is from the painting of Napoleon by Jacques Louis David [see previous comments], which of course does not have any sort of beard on him)

Secondly, Mr. Steiner, I was thinking about printing a small run of my shirts myself. However, I did check out your site and the printing quality seems good. If you are actually interested in printing any of my designs contact me and we'll talk. If you were not refering to my designs it would be better for you to just post a blog entry. Also how much is "very cheap"? It seems to me that you charge more than threadless.
