About my design

Inspired from a song, my first submission, simple, clean. Let me know what you think.

British Sea Power - Blackout. One of the lines is "All the pretty machinery under the sky".

This is pretty raddo! Though, I agree it's slightly on the large side. But, nothing too hard to fix, no? Great job!!

i dig. would like to see it smaller. reminds me of the house industries logo.

Just went to go look up what the House Industries logo looks like because I was worried about copyright stuff, has that urban factory feel, but still unlike my design (if any of you were worried about copying). The House Industries logo http://www.houseind.com/include/getimage.php?id=255

Keep the comments comin :D

I like, especially if it were just somewhat smaller, like others have said..

Any other color thoughts?

I like the chunkiness of the design and the simplicity. I don't understand the "drips" (or whatever) coming down from the cloud. Sort of feels like an acid rain reference perhaps, but it doesn't look like rain. Seems like I've seen this drippy thing on a lot of designs recently and I'm not sure what has inspired the popularity of it.

i def like the size, but the it seems like the graphic has been done before

I assure you that I did not borrow or copy from another design. Actually I was on my way back from class listening to that song and the minute I got back to my dorm I started creating it. Just kinda one of those weird moments when u have a visualization in your head w/o any sketches.

Oh and I put the drips there to kind of give the could a feeling of negativity... without them it seemed kinda like a happy cloud instead of an ominous one. Know the drips thing has been done before, but it seemed to fit in with the simplicity.
Cassanova_Frankenstein
Cassanova_Frankenstein on May 27 '05
why the drips? pollution doesn't drip unless it's like acid rain. It just seems completely irrelevant to the concept but other than that I like it.
DaddyDom
DaddyDom on May 27 '05
I read the drips as, everything we spew up there, comes right back down on us. That was part of the reason I liked it.
ICD2k3
ICD2k3 on May 27 '05
yea Dom, it was to give an overall feeling of negativity... of it coming back at us

one of the best submissions out right now. I agree drips are too common among threadless submissions, but in this case it really adds to the design. I like the simplicity. But like so many have said, it's too big. And the colors aren't very interesting. They're not bad, but I'm sure you can do better. I like that the shirt is a dark color, and the red is bold against the navy, but this combination is just so primary. I'd like to see this in more unusual colors. And I think you could find a way to use a third color to add to its visual appeal. Just please don't print this on a beige, grey, or light blue shirt -- there are enough of those already!

Ok guys, I'm gonna make some more comps of this design totday and post them to my personal site. I'll leave you the link when I'm done so u can see what it would look like smaller, different colors, and maybe with a 3rd color. Stay tuned

i'd say, definitely smaller and more of a cityscape. rather than just one building.

The language of this design is coherent and consistent. You make a point without having to resort to words--meaning, effectively, you know how to communicate visually.

VERY strong.

I like the new colors a lot better -- except for the terra cotta one on the yellow. i think the ones on the black and navy are the best. the colors of the gold shirt work too but I'm not sure I like the introduction of a frame.

Is your time in the college of stealing dingbats paying off? This really just looks like you added some drips to webdings.

....no, this was all created by hand in photoshop, would have used illustrator, but I didn't have it at the time.

And if you don't belive me I have the files to prove it so go F yourself.
