About my design
by Ian Leino
"The World of Tomorrow" was the theme for the 1939 World's Fair, and served as a beacon of hope in a dark time. Coming out of the Depression, and seeing the dark clouds looming on the political landscape in Europe, the Fair offered a different vision of the future; one of hope and progress, built on the back of technology.

The "futuristic" sci-fi artwork of the following decades continued this trend of boundless optimism, promising glowing urban cityscapes with elevated roads, flying cars and zeppelins mooring atop skyscrapers.

This contest seemed like the perfect chance to revive both the style and ideals of this period, and remind us that we really can accomplish anything.

I love 30/40s style! Futuristic, but retro. I'd certainly buy this!

Nice one. Something I had thought about doing, but I'm glad I didn't. It would not have been close to the style of this. I'll stick to drawing funnies and leave the retro class to you. Good luck man. $5 from me.

Definately picking up on the allusion to the World's Fair theme in this. I wish I could see some more of the car and some more Art Deco "speed line" shit going on for trim on the car, but other then that, it's very good.

$5

very nice...the spacing between the "see the" and "of" seem a bit weird to me. My favorite contest shirt I've seen so far.

the illustration, color and type is nice...
sadly the typography needs more work,
the typography kinda reminds me of those gift shirts from the statue of liberty ...

hope u can work more on the type arrangement, it'd surely enhance the design! u go dude!

This would be a great shirt even without the WIRED theme.

I really like it... I've always been a sucker for the retrofuture look.
This definitely should be in the top of the contest entries.

I wish the image took up more space on the shirt......the image is great but it gets dwarfed by the empty space

Great design, but I wouldn't place the design in the center of the t-shirt.

Well, today's the last day of scoring for this one, and I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for all of the positive comments and critiques.

This has been a great competition with some incredible entries. I know I had lots of fun working on this design, and would of course LOVE to see it printed. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

You have certainly seen images LIKE this before, as it is based heavily on the style of the advertisements and travel posters of the 30's and 40's. But you haven't seen THIS image before unless you were looking over my shoulder as I created it. (And I hope you weren't... that would be creepy.)
