The U.S. Congress recently passed a bill that affects the nutrition of federally funded school lunch programs- effectively declaring pizza a vegetable- under heavy lobbying from food companies that produce frozen pizzas, the salt industry and potato growers.
According to the new rules, two tablespoons of tomato paste counts as a vegetable serving, and starchy foods like french fries can continue to be served daily.
We know better. Vegetables know better. Pizza is not a vegetable!
