very nice drawing but there has to be more than four colors in there

Nice drawing, but I'd like this better on paper stuff than t-shirt stuff.

sco0gles, do you mean that it is required to have four+ colors? or that there are already four colors in there?

to answer the latter, it's a sketch. it's the same color. it's just thicker in some areas than others.

oops, forgot to mention:

love love love the sketch, but i wouldn't buy it. *unless* you continued it into a full illustration. that'd be really cool. i would buy that.

scoogles is right, they are all different shades of grey, not different amounts of black. too many colors. Kinda nifty sketch though, but I wouldn't wear a white shirt with only a sketch on it

I adore this, but also probably wouldn't wear a white shirt. And I tend to think it's more than four colors, which is a shame. Does anyone know the reason for this rule?

threadless probably owns a silkscreen registring machine, which has room for 4 screens. you must use one of these if the different colors in the desicn are to meet up and you cannot have more that that amount because of you take off a couple screens they might be off of the other ones and the design wouldn't match up.

i think if threadless had a problem with the color amount it wouldnt have gone up for scoring.

I love the drawing and allthough i am not a fan of white iwould by this shirt. i love the movemen created by he hair, and how her shoulders are lightly sketched making her fade out instead of looking decapitated. good job, id like to see more!

Love the sketch but I would like to see some type of "graphic" application, not necessarily text, if it was going to be on a t-shirt. You could vector your sketch very easily in Illustrator. Check out "I like trees too" by Durrell , kinda of what I'm yapping about.

I like animals too

Threadless does occasionally let through designs that have more than four colours. They slip through the cracks. But they certainly don't PRINT anything with more than 4. They outsource the printing to a chicago printer, and I think the four color limit is mostly to encourage creativity in design. Nothing encourages creativity like rules to work around.

BTW I like the sketch, but it's not a good t-shirt.

This is the kind of shirt I was hoping to find when someone told me about this site. It is beautiful. It's not clever or colorful or obnoxious. Just simple and beautiful. I desperately hope this gets printed. I'll buy 2.

I prefer Derek Hess myself, but there's no question it's 'elegant in its simplicity'. Solid work.

As a designer and illustrator myself I love the shirt!!! To all those that said you need more colors screw that. The simpleness of it makes it work. The only suggestion I would make is try putting the design in a colored t-shirt, but I still would buy it.

I KNOW THIS WORK AND IT ISNT YOURS

IT STRAIT FROM KOI TURNBULLS SKETCHBOOK,

YOU TOTALLY COPY AND PASTED A COMIC BOOK ARTIST SKETCH.

OR IS IT COINSEDENCE THAT THE DRAWING AND YOUR ACCOUNT NAME BELONG TO THE CHARACTER INT THE BOOK?
AspenLiselle
AspenLiselle on Apr 21 '05
Actually it is my sketch, I didn't know who Koi Turnbull was until I looked him up and saw he's doing some Fathom comics. I actually did this 4 years ago when I was working at Top Cow comics and was influenced by Michael Turner and Fathom was my favorite comic book, which should be obvious to Michael Turner fans. But I can assure you it wasn't a ripoff of any kind, it was influenced by an old photograph of my mom. Sorry for the confusion.

On a side note, I did try this design on different colors but I always came back to the simpleness of the white, it just looked the best.

Thanks for the comments:)
