I'd add a little bit more of greek ornamenture. see the actual ornaments that make the frieze of greek vases.

I'm with the pro-text camp. I don't think enough people will understand the joke without it. It's esoteric from both a high and low cultural point-of-view, and that's what makes it so funny. But, I think it might loose some humor if it has to be explained to people. The vase idea is great. I'd definitely buy that!
