Someone onced pointed out that a shirt wasn't 'Threadless material,' and another person asked 'What IS Threadless material?' I think it's t-shirts with designs based on the designs, not on words. That is, the design can stand on its own without the words.

I know that doesn't apply to EVERY SINGLE shirt Threadless has ever printed, but overall it's a theme.

This design is too text-based. But then, idea is too text based. Sorry. :\

other times words bring together that idea, or make it more clear. Simply a half full/ empty glass of water would require too much though for such a simple point. I often use words so that the audience understands teh second meaning or the hidden meaning. I feel that if everyone doesnt understnad, why ?whats teh point?

The fact remains - you cant please all the people all the time.

I appreciate your honest input though. I will take that to heart in the future.

I was also trying to force an "out side of the box" line of thinking. The question of: Is the glass half full or half empty?, is a dead cyclic question...add a new perspective and kill the question. Simply...the glass is just too big... thats my point. Whos to say the question is limited to the water alone?

that's an original take on a cliche, and I like it. I spent quite along time learning to read, so I'm grateful for the chance to practise my skills. I disagree with the "no text" fanatics. Crazy folks.

Silly you, the glass is completely full of air and water!!! (unless it's in a vacuum...which I highly doubt)

I love the concept, and I would definitely wear it. The words make the shirt, they don't overpower it in this case. 5+$

I've just had an idea of how to keep the text the way it is whilst improving the design.

Make it a form of some sort, where the glass of water is diagram 'A' and the text is the question (for example an exam question, or part of an I.Q. test)

Move the glass of water to the left, place the text to the right of the water, add a border around it all. For greater effect tatter the edges of the 'border' to make it look more like a piece of paper, or just add a slight shadow

I havea concept in that way, or very very similar already....it didnt speak to me as much....it looked more like a test than a thought....but thank you for the idea.

i think that right now, it's just too plain. it at least has to be on another color, not white.
ej ronin
ej ronin on Apr 04 '05
its not about hte graphic its about the idea. I tried it on other colors the only other color I feel it works on it light blue, but then the shirt drowns out hte water...white was what I felt worked best

engh.... I'm not redoing this one...if it goes it goes, if not...I'll go elsewhere with it

I love it but I'm gonna nitpick...

It is a little high up, lower it like...an "inch" you know...what an inch would be on a t-shirt...

If you're gonna capitalize "Half Full" and "Half Empty", then capitalize "The Glass Is Too Big"

And maybe a red check might look nice. :)

But anyway... 5+$!!

ej ronin on Apr 07 '05
thanks....I noticed the grammer rule after I posted, and the red check would be 5 colors, as teh white reflect is a color not a transparancy...thank you

After going through your slew of shirts, I have come to a conclusion. You produce a batch of shit and put it on here in hopes of getting one right. Ho about instead of submiting 20 shit, cliché, no time involved, 4 different ideas to the same concept (ie. bulb 1,2,3 bullet 1,2,3) you work on producing a nice idea/concept, and executing it well. To me, it looks like you had an image, then placed it on a shirt and submitted. No thought process at all. Maybe you should just delete your pirated copies of illustrator and photoshop and dj? Sorry to be so harsh, but with out of high school kids/no degree having people with pirated software calling them self designers, there are times people must be. Anyone can work a pen tool, but concept and execution is what really matters and you are lacking both. Sure the glass half full things is a good concept. It was good when the first person thought of it, maybe the second, possibly the third. But you are probably in the runnings for millionth person to use that idea.

...so aside from the fact that yes maybe you are right about hte needing to think about it more...Im interested in hearing how you justify and back your satement of a pirated version of pirated software.

Normally I would take your comment MORE to heart, but from someone who has only 4 shirts with low detail, ZERO concept and a collective shirt rating of 1.69...I hardly feel that A.) you shouldnt talk let alone be given the priviledge to do so. and B.) at no point have I ever called my self a designer. I actaully made a point to say Im NOT a designer, but that I figured Id explore that avenue. Glad to see we have someone who can read, or takes the time to read before they open their mouths.

I do 3d modelling pretty well, and therefore have actually BOUGHT a version of PS CS and ILL CS....and will hopefully soon buy the PSCS2, and ILL CS2...possibly indesign as well.

Consider the statement where you say that my glass looks to be nothing more than an image I slapped on a shirt and put some text under it...so...what is you explanation of you Crayola-esque down to the the rudementary shape, size, and color sheme with three crayons...I half expected to see "9 of 10 Kids prefer crayons over guns" like on the PearlJam shirt 10 years ago when i WAS in HS. A solid concept and idea may have escaped you as well...

I think maybe a small handfull of people here are worthy of thinking they are elitists. Until I see you posting on the humhum boards...go find a muzzle, and keep it on. If you dont know what the humhum boards are, it just makes my point more evident. (http://humhum.be - good luck with that...)

Secondly, what makes you think I have no degree, or am fresh out of the box with HS? once again, unfounded statements for the purpose of calling lightining...

If my designs are shit and things like that, then the handful of ppl who like them must be JUST as cliche`, uneducated and whatnot as well? is that what I am to understand? You make a general statement, but Im suppose you mean it towards a specific group or person. Not too good with written communication are we?

That said, again I will agree that maybe I needed to apply more thought to the design of a few shirts. I can't help that at times I have fragmented thoughts, its a prcess of progression, and I other than it seeming to lack professionalism, dont see much wrong with the 20 some odd subissions. I admitted the fault, and moved on...you dont see designs in the wors stating XXXv2 or three anymore do you...adapt and overcome.

I've wasted enough of eachothers time with this response..I trust in the future you'll make a point on knowing what the fuck you are talking about.

I think im far from an "elitist" on the threadless boards, but being in the design field, I can pick out the degrees/non-degrees. Not only are all of your submissions not consistant, they're not to scale. Im not going to even mention them not being "detailed" because an image doesn't have to be detailed to be good, thats what economy was created for (if you dont know what economy is, it's a element of design.) And with your process of progression... how about sketching the idea out and working on it before producing 5 different images... as well as submitting all of them. And sure you have a "handful" of people who like your design, there are always going to be people that like things. Why do you think ashlee simpson is still singing? But that doesn't make your design ground breaking. I'm not oging to even try to back up my shirts, because I'm positive I put more time and effort into my concepts/ideas than you have through out your 20 designs. But you didn't take my comments to heart did you, that why you wrote a seven paragraph essay trying to back your self up. But sure, i'll take back the comment about "pirated" versions of photoshop and illustrator. I'm glad you bought it. Now all you need is some course work, and you're all set. I also recommend taking an english class as well, cause you have some problems with spelling.

for some constructive criticism... I would fix the horrible perspective on the bottom of the glass. align the text with the glass if your going to use it, it looks off balanced the way it is. And if you're going to capitalize each letter in the first two options, you should capitalize each in the last option as well.

So there is no confusion, my roommate (eyemedikation aka. raoul) uses my computer, and he forgot to sign off of my account. So all of that was from him, not my self. Carry on with what you two are argueing about.
