Nice work. You asked for my input so here it is... Hope I don't offend you in any way I'm just honest-and i still like it a lot. -Maybe think of using a gradient on the sky to make the flat shapes pop forward more. -You can always consider clouds and constellations as elements like facial detail. - Maybe fill that black into a really dark blue. -And one last possible fun idea is throw on a midtone highlite on the water, it can look like hair texture of a beard. Goodluck!

I think that i didn't improve with that amount of details, afraid to lose the "Cartoon" look. But i'm sure that would be great indeed.
