KEMMLER
About my design
by KEMMLER
First of all: If you find this design offensive you are either hypersensitive or misinterpreting it. This design is meant to be thought provoking more than brash or shocking. I wanted to include a lot of symbols that were representative of what sex can mean other than a physical act: hence the money, car and cigarettes. Everything in here is related in that way, and it\\\'s meant to make you consider what sex means in society. In addition, I realized that I had never seen a shirt that just flat out said \\\"sex\\\" on the front of it, despite all the raunchy, suggestive shirts that you see all over the place. So, I figured I\\\'d take the obvious step andbypass the symbolic references- while at the same time exploiting them. I hope you can appreciate this design as having more meaning than a 14-year-old might ascribe to it. Sorry to any 14-year olds out there.

I thought of something else: If you say "I like it but I wouldn't/couldn't wear it" (because it says 'sex') then you're just repressed! Throw off the shackles of cultural norms and free your mind. wear it!

Not good t-shirt colours but the design is awsome. I would definately buy it.

i think maybe the designs should be emphasized more because when you look at it at first, the only thing you can focus on is the work sex...i think you could find a way to make whats inside the word stand out a bit more.

I agree but I was worried about it getting too busy. I think if each thing was emphasized the whole thing would look like a mess.

If you give the objects inside different colours (don't like the baby colours anyway) like red-black-grey it doesn't need that outline at all, or a very thin one.

this is areally good idea, but why are you so defensive straight out without anyone saying anything in the first place? You could have just described how it was SUPPOSE to be interpereted rather than telling people not to interpert it a certain way. Because you do have a good thing going.

You would have to give your little speech everytime you'd wear this tee.

I quite like it but to my eyes the black of the humans and the paleness of the other items is too contrasting. Maybe if everything was in shades like E* suggested. I have old eyes.

originally everything was black & white... it looked like a train wreck. Also, I prefer to be defensive and then leave it to the viewer, since there isn't one way you should view this, there are just a few ways that you shouldn't.

yeah you should lighten up the outline/make it thinner and i think it could work..and maybe keep it on pink and bluish shirts so it works better with the design

i like the idea, and the suggestive pose of the female silhouette. However, i would not buy the shirt for this design. 3

I like it, but I think if you put it on a black shirt it would work the best. That way there wouldn't be an outline persay, which i think would de-emphasize the word a little and help to bring the objects inside more into focus. I also think if you didn't use pastels it would help emphasize the objects inside the word as well.

is that really what you believe sex to mean in society?
renadefarie
renadefarie on Mar 19 '05
i think it would look better if your were to have made the outline on the word sex a dark grey and the figures a lighter grey, but that's just my opinion.
KEMMLER
KEMMLER on Mar 19 '05
to whirzle: not really, I mean, I see these things as all linked, but whether I think the meaning of sex is "cigarettes, cadillac, booze, money" is not really the point of the shirt. (I don't)

Hey, everyone, it struck me that this would probably look best on grey. What say you?
Digikid
Digikid on Mar 21 '05
Dark grey as a t color would probably be a good choice to make it pop off the background.

the design is a bit of a shame, i feel it should be far more subtle.

I feel like its a great idea, but i think you put it on all the wrong colors (the pink is fine.) It clashes with the red especially, try the turcoise
