I'd dig a shirt with a Delorean on it.

But this one isn't too well-executed.

Where I'm going we need t-shirts like this." A triumph", said the Daily Mail. "Masterful" agreed the Star. "A meisterwerk delivered by a designer at the peak of his powers" opined the Telegraph. Well done indeed.

you people and your darned copyright infringements............I really don't think threadless or Universal Pictures would care..........love a shirt for it's design, not for it's lack of copyright infringement.

Good design, bad colors.............

Thanks for all the constructive criticism so far. Like justme evan quite rightly sez, love a shirt for it's design. So I've used a Delorean, and a quote from the film, there's been more blatant plagiarism, anybody seen the clockwork orange shirt? Think of it as more of an iconic tribute. My choice of t-shirt and print colours are to reflect the 80's, bright cyan and magenta as well as the pastel pink and cyan. Keep up the comments, I am enjoying your opinions.

better without the words entirely, plus, that would make it less a back to the future shirt (lame) and more a cool car icon shirt (sweet)
KEMMLER
KEMMLER on Feb 24 '05
not sure if it's copyright infringement except for the quote. The car looks like a regular delorean, but the quote is definetly universal property.

colonelbuendia
colonelbuendia on Feb 25 '05
Copyright is only infringed by "reproduction of the whole or a substantial part" of a work. Taking a one line quote from a film is not really a significant part of it. You americans are so scared of being sued it's a wonder you get up in the morning, never mind do design work. All design these days involves borrowing, inspiration or whatever you want to call it, so let's all chill out on the whole copyright front.
expicalado
expicalado on Feb 25 '05
Seriously Americans need to chill with the whole suing bullshit, oooh I tripped on your turf. Suck it up damnit.

Oh ya the shirt....It's funny! haha I like it but wouldnt buy it only cuz of the colors....although I cant imagine it in a better color anyway.

love the movie, so i love the shirt, but i didnt realize it was a dilorian until i read the quote. it kinda looks like 2 girrafes sticking their heads out of a car. I would put the dilorian at a bit of an angle for better understanding

I say no words...they interfere with the focus of the shirt, the car. Otherwise, horribly original and grand idea, great color choices

Seems there's been a good few comments about this shirt which is good, I would have preferred more points, especially seeing as I'm being beaten by the Clockwork Orange rip off and a friggin' breakdancing Jesus that took all of 5 mins to do! I appreciate people's opinions, however, to the people who have criticised and have no submissions to their name (they know who they are), you might want to actually post some examples of your design 'work' and be judged yourselves, then your comments might carry some weight.
Dirtysweet
Dirtysweet on Feb 28 '05
Hey Webbins, what's that supposed to mean? That I can't criticize an album or a book because I haven't written a song or written a novel?

You are free to criticize 'Dirtysweet' but I am the designer and would like to see other peoples work, to back up their design convictions. I respect peoples opinions but the people with no construction in their comments are usually the one's who can't design for shit. I feel that if you criticized a music artist, say Snoop Dogg, to his face, he'd want to defend his work, actually he'd probably just cap one in yo face, shizzle.

Webbins- I understand a designer's frustration over tough criticisms from non-designers. However, when the designers try to lash out at those people, their argument, in my opinion, is invalid. Threadless.com is a brilliant concept- get people to design T-shirts for you, then get your customer base to tell you which ones they want before you print them. Why should I, as a (thus far) non-designer, not be able to criticize a design when, as a paying customer, I am doing exactly what Threadless was designed for?

In essence, the only people whose criticisms should bear no weight are those who not only refrain from designing, but from purchasing as well.

(Also, I have made some attempts at designing, but the results have been unsatisfactory, so I have decided not to waste people's time with them. Plus, don't fault other people who would like to design, but cannot afford $300 software programs and chose not to download the virus-riddled hacked versions.)

As for the copyright issues, it's not like threadless is going to be hit with a $15-million lawsuit for printing protected images. Most likely, if they did print something protected, they would receive a Cease-and-Desist letter from the copyright holder's attourneys, which Threadless would happily oblige to prevent said $15-million lawsuit. The result? A warehouse filled with hundreds of T-shirts they cannot sell, and a rather unwanted loss in the debit column.

Webbins on Mar 01 '05
I don't give a rat's arse about the tough criticisms, I work in a design studio and deal with criticism day in-day out, water off a duck's back.

I'm not lashing out, I love reading the opinions, and I love that anyone can submit designs, I just can spot the shite that's taken zero effort. Some people don't need threadless, they need an inkjet printer and iron-on paper.

As for copyright, Threadless would not accept submissions if they thought there would be copyright issues, as you say unsold tees make no money. Copyright infringement exists only when a substantial part of a piece of work is copied, but some people don't half take the piss with their 'creative licensing'.
