The origins of the Mechanopapilio polymorphus (or mechanical butterfly with many forms) is not conclusively known, but scientists have speculated its breeding grounds formed around the quarantine areas of the Chernobyl nuclear reactor disaster of April, 1986.
Since that time, some speculate that the nearby butterfly species starting feeding off mounds of spilled nuclear waste, the glowing squarish hunks littering the landscape having been nicknamed "energy
cubes". Their transformation into fully-formed armored butterflies is astounding, sometimes taking as little as thirty seconds, while emanating a strangely-pitched noise of shifting body parts combined
with what sounds like a V6 engine being revved into high gear. It has also been known to spontaneously grow laser blasters and heat-seeking missiles when threatened, leading to a popular rhyme amongst lepidopterist circles:
Before you near a sunny grove exterior of innocent looking butterfly Remember that its interior just might hold much more than meets the eye.
Though it has never been captured and closely studied, Santo76 and Frickinawesome have consulted scores of scientists and electricians to get this magnificent creature's attributes as accurate as it looks in its natural surroundings.
Special thanks to BioSam for his help in naming this very deceptive species.
