Cross Road Blues
About the design
on December 1, 2010
Created for THREADWARS III: Round 4
Theme: Music
Robert Johnson (1911 1938) is arugably one of America's greatest guitar player. Spin put him 1st on their list of 35 Guitar Gods, & in RS put him 5th on their list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists.
Amazingly, Johnson recorded only 29 songs before dying suspiciously at the age of 27. Because his life has been so poorly documented (eg. there are only 2 photos of him) the legends have surpassed whatever the truth might be and also given birth to a Faustian myth that was the inspiration for this design.
With songs like 'Cross Road Blues,' 'Me and the Devil Blues' and 'Hellhound on My Trail' many believed that Johnson's skills came from a deal with the Devil who he meet near Clarksdale, Mississippi. It's a tale of fame and fortune at the cost of ones soul.
With this design, I wanted to create an electric dream in red, white & blue and have it all made up of lines.
Whether you know the story of Johnson or not, I think the shirt is self explanatory. I hope you like it (at least more then my threadwars challenger's design ;)

Really really elegant line work...love the huge placement on front, the full depth of your work is on display and really weighs evenly on the shirt. Awesome back print as well.

Thanks everyone!
This tournament has been a real challenge for me and I can't believe I've made it this far.
And while it's not over yet, this is definitely my toughest match up yet (Alex is a Threadless juggernaut!)
So thanks for the comments and support, it's definitely appreciated!

Sideburns are patches of facial hair grown on the sides of the face, extending from the hairline to below the ears and worn with an unbearded chin. The term "sideburns" is a 19th century corruption of the original burnsides, named after American Civil War general Ambrose Burnside, a man known for his unusual facial hairstyle that connected thick sideburns by way of a moustache but left the chin clean-shaven.
