About the design
It is said that because of the vastness of space and the difficulty of interstellar travel we are much more likely to be visited by the robots of an advance alien species rather than the aliens themselves.
These robots could withstand the hardships of space travel without the limitations of a living organism, able to replicate and repair themselves, adapt to specific planetary conditions by mimicking indigenous species. They would most likely be sent out in vast multitudes to seek out habitable worlds which they would then infiltrate and conquer in preparation for their master's eventual arrival.
