About the design

Submitted by almozline on November 2, 2010

For this challenge, I created a design that at a glance looks very simple, recognizable and pictographic, but has a level of complexity and detail when you look into it.

I used public domain imagery (hand-drawn maps created during the 19th century), following one of the 2K10 trendsetters.

Enjoy!

I don't know why some people get their knickers in a twist over the use of public domain images. Clever idea, awesome design, looks cool on the tee, end of story. $5

jimmytan

LOVE IT!!!!

TGWA

My knickers aren't really in a twist, it's just 99.9% of the cool factor is coming from that old painting. The .1% that's actually from the designer is a generic bird silhouette. Just my 2 cents.

Eddy_cz

WOW! It took my breath away

It's up! thanks guys!

A few words about the process: I stitched several old images to fit the composition, it took a lot of manipulating and color treatment. It's not like I took 1 public domain image, slapped a clip-art bird mask over it and that's it.

In no way am I taking credit from the artists that drew those amazingly detailed, beautiful maps more than 100 years ago, but I also don't want people to think I used it in a "plug-and-play" kind of way.

Thanks again for voting and commenting guys!
