I noticed on your website that you're an art director and wanted to share some friendly advice: the consequences of using work too similar to a freelance illustrator these days can be pretty brutal. They're very protective of their work. I would be careful in the future so as to avoid any dramatic events. The shirt demonstrates a great message and I'm behind it 100% but I think there may be safer ways to execute it.

I like this shirt even if it loosely resembles the idea behind the picture in that "sampaints.com" link.

The message is clear: Print is Dead.

I support how this artist combines elements of a previous work with the idea of Print is Dead. Information should be free.

People should be free to combine ideas and create something new. This is evolution... and fits nicely with the message of the shirt.

Final comment: Type should be fixed to seem like it is on the book more. Just an iterative fix. Very nice shirt still that I'd purchase.

The concept of print becoming a dying form of art and communication has always interested me. The similarities between my art and Webbers are unavoidable. I came across his image a while back and the breaking down of the figure stuck in my head. While brainstorming ideas I totally admit to using his image as a jumping off point for my art.

I hand drew the image from scratch and digitally added the collage/paper effect. I wanted the halo around her head to reference the religious iconic art (life and death) as well as the touch of gold foil. I spent a lot of time on this, experimenting with new techniques and I am very proud of it. Unfortunately, when done, I did not think to compare my final product to his illustration.

I will defend my design, but I understand why the issue has been raised.

Cool design, sad but true message (well 'dying' anyway). And I think it's plenty different from the sampaints work - is noone allowed to paint a vase of flowers because Van Gogh did it? Art can borrow ideas from other art, else we'd run out of art because everything would be off limits. We are members of a 7billion strong race with around 250,000 years under our belts - there's bound to be crossovers! ("here, here" I hear you think ;-)
