Numinous on Aug 11 '10 No "jab" as you say; it's a pun - And puns = giggles. Arnold is famous for saying the Spanish phrase Hasta la vista, baby" in Terminator 2. To blow off steam after a long day of government business Arnold slaps on the flip flops and cranks up the weed wacker to destroy some hosta plants.

fatheed on Aug 16 '10 Fantastic illo. I like that the pose is just like the mini gun scene from T2. The 'hostas' pun is not so great for me though. I've never heard of hostas and only understood that part once I'd read your description. Great linework and colouring.

Numinous on Aug 16 '10 Thanks fatheed :) I think some cases"getting it" (the pun in this case) can be a secondary device. You know, kind of like getting why Thomas the Tank Engine is an angry robot - you don't have to "get" any joke, it just looks funny to see Thomas as an angry robot (something opposite of the character's personality). Let's face it, Arnold is a funny dude; seeing him going postal on plants, even if you don't know what they are, in my book is hilarious.
I'll have to watch T2 sometime to find that scene you mentioned. |

About my design
In the distance I heard an angry Austrian mixed with sounds of swearing and a fierce weed wacker. "You're mine now! You belong to me!" rang throughout the street as shards of hosta plants soared through the sky. I approached closer to see this aimless destructive force. There among the hosta ruins stood Governor Schwarzenegger. I watched and listened in wonder.
"Hosta la vista, hostas!" was his creed and he lived it well that day.
