mismonaut on Aug 03 '10 First, don't feel bad because WanderingBert did the same thing. The reason you guys came up with the same thing separately is the same reason this idea works as a design. People have similar ideas all the time, especially when it comes to puns—the majority of us are drawing from the same language and pop culture background.
I know this is already well into the running, but if you were to do it again, here are some (little) things you could change: It's weird to see Oscar looking so happy! Tilt his ("real") eyebrows or adjust his mouth so he looks a bit, well, grouchier. The lines coming up from the nostrils are lopsided, and it's a little weird to look at; change that. Bring the outline for his head all the way around, so his chin is better defined (and maybe stretch out his head so it's not so round). And as an added touch, I'd make the bricks behind him in the shape of a circle—like he's in a comedy club spotlight. Maybe throw some trash on the ground next to him, like a cigar (for Groucho) and/or a banana peel (classic comedy right there.) Those are all little tweaks, but I think that while they might not be all immediately noticeable, they'd give the voters an overall better impression. I do think that the textures you used are good, and so are the colors. It's a cute idea. Sorry you're not getting more attention; I know that can be disappointing. Good luck! |

Great advice I must say - it's hard to be motivated to rework a design though after it has bummed out in the scoring. But I have seen people get printed from a rework so maybe I will resub it! Thanks again for taking the time to give me an honest opinion and great advice that I can learn from! |
