Paradoy shirts are not an artform.

Go pitch this idea to the execs at Hot Topic.

Art is in the Eye of the individual, it is an expression of one's thought's and one's emotion's.

this is a form of art, by the individual, made to express his Idea.

and I quite like it.

It's a friggin' tshirt; not a canvas. I would so wear this if I wasn't ashamed of the last two films.

I'd remove the text. Make it a little less obvious; some people will be confused by it... and you'll see other peoples faces light up.

It would be funnier if there was something more to connect to make you say "Aha" like "The first two were better" or something. But yeah I'm really ashamed of the last two films, and just can't wear it.

yikes - tough crowd.

thanks for the criticism/comments.

...and for those of you who didn't like

the last 2 films, I understand your frustration

but, I'm not responsible for those - just the shirt.

....hey there friends.

first off, for those who don't quite understand.

it's a simple parody involving two very well-known

spheres - the AT&T logo and the Death Star (from

Star Wars). it's a very easy concept to grasp...

maybe it's just meant to be taken at face value (visually)

or maybe I'm saying that AT&T is the new Empire (metaphor)

perhaps i just wanted to design a fun shirt for AT&T employees

to wear to work - don't hurt yourself thinking about it too much.

and for the 2 that can't seem to handle a harmless parody...

i didn't know (from the looks of some of the other submissions)

that this place was reserved solely for high-art. please pardon

my painfully low-brow design. i think it's interesting to look at

the member's info when they leave a pointless message. you

can learn alot...

...like ONE submission scoring a "2"

...or an "emo diary"

this design has more humor than the vast majority of the pointless, ironic, self-involved, post-Warhol 'art' posted on here by the psuedo-intellectual, bored, and megalomanically ego-centric youth. thanks for just making a design and not necessarily a statement.
lynx larynx
lynx larynx on Dec 06 '04
hey Brocked,

I'm sorry you hate it so much.

Now I don't know what to give you for Christmas.

I never read Bloom County. I actually wondered if

anyone had come up with this before (thinking that

surely someone must've before me) but I didn't know

how to go about looking up something like that.

I took a big risk I guess - sorry to so deeply offend.

...and I just used the AT&T font...again, sorry

it bothers you so much. Where is your submission

by the way?

take care, lynx

I like your shirt. Yes, sir.
brocked
brocked on Dec 07 '04
actually, careful review of my comment does leave some ambiguity as to my opinion of this shirt - I don't care for it much, but it's much better than many recent submissions, my response was more aimed toward those who reacted as though this shirt was threatening all that they held dear to them... don't worry, I wasn't deeply offended, I just don't think the text at the bottom works at all - it may be in the AT&T font, but it certainly doesn't read well as a word or as a joke

finally, I also do not see where in my post I refer you to any submission I have made. or are you implying that I cannot dislike or criticize a movie, song, or book because I have never made one?
lynx larynx
lynx larynx on Dec 07 '04
...I also do not see where in MY post I refer to you not being able to criticize my entry

because you haven't made a movie or written a song or book - how ridiculous.

I was merely emphasizing the alaming irony I've recently discovered here that the folks

with the least to say are saying it the loudest. I'm not finding any of the more talented

designers criticizing other people's work - only designing and sometimes encouraging.

While many others with VERY mediocre designs (to be polite), or none at all, hop around

from shirt to shirt with less-than-constructive things to say and disrespectful (or outright

rude) remarks reminiscent of the ignorance and immaturity of beavis & butthead.

All I really meant by my comment was that since you know so much about what makes a

design successful, I would expect to find that you've submitted AT LEAST ONE design.

Maybe try your hand at it sometime and then we'll all see how well YOU did.

I really wish there was an age requirement to join this community.

Hoborg
Hoborg on Dec 08 '04
lynx, man, a lot of what you say is true, but you gotta take criticism not so personally. The point of the comments-section isn't just to be supportive and polite and say 'yeah thats great', its to be critical. As a result, you'll know what to fix in your design, whether its worth a re-submission or not, and you'll know what sort of thing people here DO like for future submissions. Some people are just idiots that have no regard to tact, but thats cause this is the internet, and you shouldn't really waste your time worrying about them. But all Brocked said was that the typeface you selected for the bottom is terrible, and thats a completely valid criticism, because it IS terrible. Get yourself some new fonts! And tighten up that kerning between the & and the T, ohhhh man.

Almighty said something of use, however pretenciously-put, and thats that this shirt won't do well simply because those sort of parody shirts never do well on this site. Its just not consistent with the target-market of threadless. So its best to drop this concept altogether and go back to the drawing board.

Also, try to find the bloom county comic that I think the whole parody originally came from. its hilarious =)
supertrinity
supertrinity on Dec 08 '04
the whole point here is being able to manage some critisism ain't it? I mean i don't have strong feelings about this shirt either way (and i'm also pretty new around here) but i don't have much respect for your over excited rejection of peoples opinions and super protectiveness of your piece. It's okay if they don't like it isn't it? Do they have to? Aren't they allowed to say they don't? Isn't that why you posted it here, for some feedback?

As hoborg said, the issue is that these kinds of designs aren't particuraly well suited for the market here. I think that's all anybody is really saying. I don't happen to think it's bad design per se, but i think you're in the wrong place with it.

simmer my dear. All is good and the sun shall rise tomorrow. May i interest you in some SLAM! poetry? ;)

The type font is the AT&T joke which is the entire point of the shirt, if you change the font you lose the whole concept.
