In this page Darwin depicted the relatively flightless chicken as an eagal-like bird of prey, the slow moving tortoise as a swift cheetah like predator, and the believed that due to dwindling natural resources massive animals such as the elephant would adapt and decrease in size, as only those that could survive on smaller rations would propagate.
