it doesnt have any affiliation to religion, but i see how it could

the bird is standing on a fallen scarecrow pole

which seems to have been set on fire

the x's really could be interpreted in any direction

they dont really have a full pledged reason

i'll second the cross & crown of thorns--that's what i thought when I saw it. also, I'd say that the bird would either need to be larger or smaller... it's a static composition now.
