Thank You For Smoking
About the design
on January 18, 2010
So, what I had in mind for a trend for Threadless was a reimagining of old images in the public domain. There is a wealth of fascinating, obscure and downright awesome images from days long gone that would make sweet tee designs and I think it’s something that everyone can do. It doesn’t require any special equipment or skill – just the ability to identify the potential in images that exist in the public domain and be creative with them.
Far from ripping-off the original works, I feel it's a way of paying homage to these works and their artists. The way I see it; if people are reusing and getting inspired from my work in 100 years, I would have done something right.
Thank you for reading.

THIS IS GREAT!
FRICKINAWESOME
I like the description more than the piece, hehehe! But I do apprecaite what you are doing here, I like the added touch of the skull and the ironic nature of snake-oil salesmanship in the selling of old-timey cigarettes to an unsuspecting public. Cool idea for the contest.

I love the concept. And it's true - if someone dug up my work 100 years from now, I'd be bouncing with happiness up in the nether-realm :D
plus it looks great on the tee.

i adore this design!

I feel a bit weird about using others artwork, but I cant deny that this looks awesome on the shirt.
I just hope that in a way it doesnt become a trend here on threadless, and people take it the wrong way and sorta start getting lazy and just putting others work on a shirt.
but yours is a good example since you added a twist to it, you're a clever dood 5$
Santo76
I totally dig it!

i love how this looks on the tee! i'd buy it for sure

I too am glad you submitted this. So what if it incorporates a public domain image, it's experimental, clever and it works.

Sweet shirt! I'd buy!

The irony here is that the only reason you can use this particular piece of art is because something was done quite wrong originally. Its a good tee design though, and a clever use of appropriated work.

coolness

Oh wow, I love the subtlety of this!
Fonus
I really like the shirt, I would even wear it.
However, I have mixed feelings about making money (which is what you do if it gets printed) on something I did not really create, or contribute to, myself.
But it is a nice shirt.
