About the design

Submitted by Ste7en on January 2, 2010

Defining a new trend is nearly impossible, only provable in hindsight, but predicting the direction that art will go and trying to get out ahead of the curve is as much a calculated art as the art itself.

Throughout art history we see that most artistic trends are a reaction to the status quo of the time. When things got too serious they became cartoony and satirical, when they became to cartoony they got realistic, and then abstraction etc...

As I see things now, t-shirt art has come full circle to the full color too real look of the much joked about wolf shirts from the past. If I had to guess, the next trend will see things once again move away from realistic illustration and photographic designs and more toward abstraction, simplicity and iconography.

This piece is my first attempt at trying to move away from straight forward illustration and more toward that aforementioned direction. This may not be the style of things to come, but I think its in the relative ballpark conceptually.
