Invention of Colour
About the design
on November 25, 2009
This began with just wanting to do something fun in a classic old animation style, but along the way it's reminded me of both technological and stylistic changes in art. Some of those old cartoons were amazingly inventive and still have something to offer, but a lot of modern stuff is great, too... like digital art tools! So a bit of the old, a bit of the new, and hopefully a bit of fun as well; that's what this design is about.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh ... I really love this! I'd buy this in a heartbeat, but would Disney cry "foul" & accuse you of taking credit for their ideas. I think this is very original & wonderful, but I'd rather ask the question now to give this great shirt idea a chance. Good luck. 5$

very cool!

I really think its a great idea and I think it might get away with this style - I think I have actualle seen some shirts in this "old disney animation style" on threadless..... great work!
ginetteginette
it really annoys me when people claim this style is copyrighted by disney or something. please learn some animation history! all cartoons done by several different studios were in this style during the twenties and thirties. it doesn't belong to disney! hmph!

this is a great design!

Woot's Finding Technicolor and threadless's keepin' it real basically touch on this same theme and same style.
You can't copyright a style, yes. But the fact that this same idea has been done multiple times with the same style, and printed, does certainly imply that it printing again over more original work would be a true shame.

FRICKINAWESOME
haha, I agree this doesn't copyright on Disney, I also agree with DFD saying this is very well done, and i continue to agree with adder that Wanderingbert's "finding technicolor" and to a certain extent Sam's Keeping it simple have gone over this territory before, but i really really enjoy thismad scientist take on the concept.

It seems to me that this would have been an EXCELLENT design for the Throwback challenge, no?

Yea! This would have been a top contender for the Loves Innovation had not a modern computer glitch got in the way. Love the vintage look on this, an image capture of a paradigm shift in cartoon history!!

This is graet but I think Woot's Finding Technicolor nailed this theme, hopefully I am wrong :)

G'day folks, sorry I took so long to jump in! Busy day. I'm convinced copyright isn't an issue. Even if I'd copied actual vintage characters (which I didn't), they'd be out of copyright by now (except The Mouse because he's a registered trademark, or so I believe). I tracked down the other two designs that were mentioned, and I'm a bit disappointed I guess; it'd be okay if they were bad designs but they're both good! Maybe there's room for one more on the theme. After all, there's always room for more pirates, pandas and penguins! I'll have to try for really bizarre ideas, maybe. Oxygen deprivation might help... Thanks for all the comments!

WanderingBert
Even though it's similar to my old design, I think you've done a great job with this. I can see it getting both a high score and getting printed.
wotto
Actually I may have been wrong, that design was at woot! and it sold really well so why wouldn't threadless print this? They'd be mad not to. For the record I 5ed this.
Gemma.
Wow! That's really cool! I love the concept and the illustration too!
brainrust
For the record: hm087ster and timpaint get the blame for making me stick with the title (you happy with that hm087ster? Are ya?)
Sorry I missed your Travel II design WanderingBert, but it got a strong score so I don't feel too bad! I have no idea how people keep up with the designs just on Threadless without even thinking about the other sites!

cool guys!
