What on Earth... I assure you this is not in any way supposed to "channel" racism. I don't google racist cartoons so I wouldn't know what one looks like. I guess it's a very unfortunate coincidence?

I can see what she's saying and it is because of the red lips on the black figures (she's thinking it looks like the "black face" performance actors) - however, I've looked at it a ton of times as you were working on it and never had an issue - if you're worried about it just change the lips to a different color when it prints! :)

From what I understand, racist cartoons are intended to make fun of someone's race. I really don't see how anyone could be offended by this? It's not a caricature or demeaning in any way!

thedeetzes on Oct 21 '09 It's not the actions depicted in the design it's the history that that style of animation holds. It's the equivalent of depicting a Jew as a rat with a big nose like they did during the war in the late 30's.

It's not the actions depicted in the design it's the history that that style of animation holds. If that is your only objection to this design, Deetz, then you needn't have made such a big deal about it. You could have pointed this out to Weston without accusing the design of being racist, intentionally or not. |
