When the soldiers received important orders to connect four consecutive checkers of the same color, they got right on it. It took them a little while (they almost had it diagonally a few times), but before long it was "mission accomplished". 7 flat colors on ivory, or 8 flat colors on sand.

Yuppers. I would change one of the reds to black that are behind the hanging dude's feet. No problemo.

If you change the one behind his foot to black then you'll lose the foot.
And if you change the next 2 higher up on the diagonal then black wins. You're gonna have to change the black behind his shoulder to red first, then change one of the diagonal reds to black. OR make the piece which is to the left the one being dropped in black. Otherwise, great work!

YES. YES. You are right. The very best piece to change is to the left of the piece the solider is dropping in. I would make it black. Brilliant.
