About my design
by Arrow08
In honor of Ted Kennedy and everyone else who fought and still is fighting for Universal Health care. Yea, I did this concept before, but I think it's cooler with color.

Universal Health care SUCKS. Ted Kennedy was like a dirt bag to the tenth power. No thanks.

that is really deep man. The dollar-wings look a tad odd to me, but overall it is great.

I really like the symbolism here and the way the design flows together, but i don't think the war-bullets-gun part of the design really meshes with the health care part. It makes me think you are protesting health care and war at the same time or the metaphor is a little too mixed. I still really enjoy the look of this, the message just doesn't ring clearly to me. Good luck man!

Thanks all,
randomfrog- sure man, Ted for sure wasn't perfect. But I respect his fight to make health care a little more equal in America.

Krimson - yeah, I see that now... they are lop-sided. shit. oh well. Thanks.

FRICKINAWESOME - I can see why it might be confusing. I am actually protesting war and the United States attitude towards the health care system. It's seen as profits over people, has since Nixon. War affects this because the mass amounts spent on war could possibly be put to fund universal health care. If we take a look almost trillion dollars spent on the Iraq and Afghanistan occupation, it prevents any progress to those taxes being funneled into universal care.

The design itself is cool, but I don't think universal health care could ever work.

Thanks badbasilisk and randomfrog!

randomfrog- Most people I have talked or heard talk about NHS in Canada and Europe and many other industrialized countries have no complaints. Sure it's not great everywhere but it's just that in America we have lobbyists and media sending mass amounts of misinformation about how it doesn't work and how it will collapse American freedom and the capitalist way of life. (which is completely not true) This is simply because the way it is now, those that really benefit from the current system are making millions ie: insurance companies/lobbyists. Even up north and overseas it's not paid solely through taxes by your means of income, there are still private insurance companies for millionaires or others that feel they should have the best treatment. Seems to be the perfect middle ground of capitalism and socialism. Most importantly it does work and puts people over profits, creates more productivity as healthy people work, and generally boosts the economy.

cyanidee - This might be long response, but I know it affects many people I know myself included...
First off, that short film is misleading, and bias. But to be fair to the point of view, yes every system is not perfect, but not every NHS system is like Canada.
Take Europe for example, there are on call doctors, free of charge, all government paid positions, free Nanny's for new Mothers, no paying to have a baby which can cost from anywhere from $800 to $2 grand with insurance to possibly $10 grand without in the US. They also have emergency immediate care where there is no debate of what insurance you have or if it will cover the care, it's all people over profits.

But to my main point, not only do people in the US also have waiting lists, but most importantly is that our great American private insurance companies have the power to accept coverage of the care or not, based on multiple reasons and sometimes down right distortion of patient history.
Denying care can be from titling a life saving surgery as "experimental" or a pre-existing condition along with many other reasons. And what that does is send people into bankruptcy, they remain unhealthy and many die .
Your clip fails to bring up Obama's public option which is actually an insurance option that has wide scale coverage. No denying care for any condition and would be the cheapest, all that could possibly do is bring down cost of other insurance companies so they can compete and offer a chance for people for be cared for. Which is a great step in denying insurance companies from reporting record profits while still denying hundreds of thousands of people care. There is no universal coverage in sight yet for America and I think actually it sounds like a great idea to keep private companies as an option for those that want it. At the least this would make sure people are not dying from a lack of money, from significant coverage or sent into bankruptcy even death just so a business can stay in business.
